Can anyone direct me to a video or manual for a lower leg service for the RFX 36? Fox 36 and RS Pike are pretty straightforward but I haven't done a service on an Ohlins fork and wonder if it's any different/requires special tools. Thanks.

BUMP,,,Can anyone provide input here? I was just quoted $160 dollars to have the lowers serviced by Specialized. Is this a joke? Like ha ha, you bought our awesome Enduro with "proprietary" Ohlins suspension so our long term plan is to suck your checking account dry?

Okay I'm planning on giving this a shot myself. I spoke with an Ohlins rep yesterday and they emailed me an RXF34/36 50 Hour Service Guide. Looks very straight forward. However, I think we need to address a few items that come to mind after reading the Ohlins guide and also reading through the link JCL posted above:

-No torque Specs in the Ohlins Guide when re-installing the 2 nuts on the lowers. (Lower valve nut (12mm hex socket) and rebound adjuster nut (14mm hex socket))

-No part numbers for replacement foam rings, wiper seals, crush washers etc... (if necessary)

-Ohlins recommends 5-10mL of Ohlins Gold Fluid Oil (01335-xx) in each leg. The link says 10ml in the coil side (I think they meant air spring?) and 5ml in the damper side.

This is all I can think of. I visited my LBS this morning and they are researching the parts and ordering in foam rings, the ohlins oil, wiper seals and crush washers. Might be a good idea to have these on hand even though they probably wont need to be replaced. I wont hear back from them until next week sometime.

I'd post the PDF in here but it's 1.57MB. I tried converting it to a different file format but it still ends up being too large to post in here.

I've never bothered with a torque value for damper and air spring shafts. They're a compression fit into the lowers so I just tighten until they just bottom out then a quarter turn to compress the washer. I've never seen lowers fall off or even oil leaking out of the bottom of the lowers but I have seen the castings crack by over tightening. In fact tighten them as above, remove the bolts and try and pull the lowers off. Bet ya can't.

Oil is apparently 20WT which sounds heavy to me but should be okay if the bike is stored horizontal or flipped 10mins before a ride.

My LBS got the Ohlins RXF36 Lower Leg Service kit S174200029 in today and I went over to look at it. It was marked $95.00 dollars. I contacted Ohlins directly while I was at the bike shop. The same exact kit retails for $17.00 directly through Ohlins. I am working together with my LBS and Ohlins right now to get this whole mess figured out in an effort to help the consumer (which is me and everyone that owns this shock). My LBS is working directly with Ohlins right now.

Confirmed that the foam rings can not be purchased as a stand alone item. You must purchase this kit.

For the hell of it, I contacted Specialized directly as a consumer and they quoted me $120.00 dollars for the kit.

I hope Specialized gets their pricing adjusted down to where it's supposed to be or else consumers will be paying a super-inflated cost for parts to service their fork lowers and it looks bad on the company. :madman:

Ohlins must be laughing their ass off at the mark up bike companies like Specialized put on product and what people are willing to pay 👏
Oh yea they were definitely shocked (no pun intended lol)at the price when I spoke with them. Now they were also very professional to work with and said that I could order the parts directly from them when they come back in stock in approx. 10 days.

I'm planning on following up on this as soon as I can get around to my LBS. Anyone else out there who owns this fork, either the 34 or 36, please help put pressure on them as well. Just go to your bike shops parts & service guy and ask them how much the S174200029 Lower Leg Service kit costs and if they say anything at or over 95 dollars, advise them that the same kit is $17.00 dollars directly from Ohlins. Thanks!
