Looking at both of these rides. I like the 27+ concept.

What's the verdict? Has anyone had solid exposure to both where they could weigh in on this?

Thanks!

I rode the hightower and wasn't a fan. Felt really high up and didn't feel 'in' the cockpit like some others. A buddy of mine just bought the Mojo3 and said it's insane. Best bike he's ever ridden. I believe he also rode the hightower before making his decision.

Test rode both - Ibis climbs better, Santa Cruz descends better.

If I were to buy one of those two I would go with the ibis because the descending ability was quite close - just different.

The santa Cruz was a hold on and smash, ibis was a weaver and slicer.

Ibis made a concerning pop and ping noise on the climbs though. Quit annoying.

Can't really go wrong with either.

I ended up buying a devinci troy though-

Not sure if you are at all concerned about weight, but Hans posted on the Mojo 3 forum that the SLX M3 in a large Red with dropper post weighs 27.5

" it's taking a while to get the info out, but the basics are that the SLX bike is now going to include a dropper post and will sell for $4,599 1x (46t cassette) / $4,699 2x (42t cassette).

The weight with dropper post for a red large M3 1x with 2.8 tires is 27.5 lbs."

We weighed a Santa Cruz Hightower 27.5+ in GX and it was over 30 lbs for the large. That SLX M3 looks sweet and shipping next week with 11-46. Everyone scales may be different but just giving data.

I bought a Mojo 3 three months ago and it's the most fun I've had on two bike wheels. With the 2.8 tires you corner and climb MUCH better and the tires - in this case Knobby Nics - don't weigh all that much for trail tires. Also, big for me, when I get off of the bike I DO NOT feel as beat up as I did on my old 29'er full suspension bike and the 29'er had 2.4 tires on it. I "think" that the higher volume 2.8 tires just soak up a lot more of the trail and don't transmit as much vibration to the rider.

I can't comment on the SC Hightower as I've never ridden one.

So I'm looking at the ibis web page, and it seems that SLX version comes with 2.3" tires? Also the rims spec'd are only 34mm inner width.

Where to do you toggle "YES I ACTUALLY WANT PLUS TIRES AND WHEELS" on that web page?

The Mojo is tight with 2.8, nice bike, but not ideal, my impression is they got the clearance as an afterthought.

There are bunches of non 27 plus mid travel bikes, so to advertise a bike as plus, it just seems to me that having extra clearance is not a bad thing.

The Mojo 3 and Hightower are fine bikes.

I'm waiting on either a Switchblade frame or a SRAM complete.

Well, I'm not sure I get the mojo. Not being 29er capable is a little odd to me. I like the lighter weight, though. The switchblade seems awesome, but it's got yet another rear hub standard, and is $6400 entry point.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Salsa Pony Rustler in carbon (I'd prefer the top grade frame's paint job on a mid grade build, plus a dropper). The stays are a little bit (11mm) longer, but I'm not sure I care too much about that. The only issue I may have with the PR is the BB seems low. Wonder how it compares to the Mojo or Switchblade.

When I bought my Hightower the Ibis had just been announced but wasn't out yet so I couldn't do any kind of comparison. That said - it wouldn't have been on my radar because I wanted a 29er first and foremost, with 275+ capabilities if I wanted to go that route.

Now that I have a set of plus wheels I'm not sure I'll ever go back to 29, but you may want to think about what the "other" wheel is. If you prefer 27.5 or 29, that should help you decide between the two, or help you dial in what you are looking for.

Either way, hell of a bike.

The Pony has long stays, short travel, really not comparable to the other bikes being discussed. I would not considet a 120mm shock and a 120-130 fork as enough for all mountain.

Speaking of which, how many folks will actually buikd two wheelsets? I have extra wheelsets for my Mutz and tandem, but 95% of the time I ride one set.

I think they rushed to get that SLX page up. On the other builds (including the Special Blend) you can opt for 1 of 3 tire choices.

I bought a C-dale Bad Habit 1 and like it but am interested in quickly updating to a Ibis Mojo. Being that i'm not in a big hurry, any thoughts on when to get the best deal on one? Internet or an LBS?

I need to test ride one.
