Hey there MTBR,
I'm having issues installing my GX cassette on the XD driver body. Like all freehub bodies there is one spot that is slightly wider than the rest and it should align with a slightly wider engagement tooth on the cassette, but the cassette teeth all look the same and none are slightly wider. I can't get the cassette to set onto the XD freehub.

Advice?

There is no magical trick, you just align it. After aligning you start screwing on the cassette. I had the same issue when I mounted my X1 cassette the first time, but I found guidance in this YouTube video (go to 9:30 minutes)
- I hope it works for you.

Well, great to be able to share my experience, and that you actually got it to work. Indeed sometimes it feels wrong even though it's right :)

Yes ALWAYS new chain with a new cassette (especially pricey ones :) )

Don't always need new cassette when you install new chain.

I usually rotate 2-3 chains on a cassette, putting on a new cassette I always start with a brand new chain, as the chain usually is the cheap part on the drivetrain:)

Quick question, also I'm as clear as mud on this right now so talk like I'm a noob. I realize that I will need a new free hub body but do I need a complete new hub? Or will the XD free hub body fit on my old hub? I have a sunringle rear hub with 9 speed cassette now.

Somewhere on the hub it must be written what it is, or you may know from the bike shop where you bought the bike. Once you know the hub type and make you'll just gab to decide whether it's the SRAM XD type or the Shimano type (which also fits som SRAM cassettes).

An XD freewheel hub is SRAM only, while a Shimano freewheel hub may fint certain SRAM models. You will have to install A Shimano compatible freewheel hub in ordre to fit a Shimano cassette. May I suggest to install an e-thirteen cassette if you need a wider range, they've just introduced a 9-46 11 speed cassette - please see https://bythehive.com/pages/drivetrain.

Cheers Niels
