Just purchased a 2016 Scott Aspect 720 a couple months ago as my first legit mountain bike for being a beginner out on the trails. Love the bike other than the front fork suspension, been thinking for the last couple weeks upgrading it from the stock to something better, been looking into the fox shox, only thing is I can not find a manual for the bike to see what kind of size I need for a steerer tube. My bike is a 27.5 wheel size. What would everyone recremend for a replacement fork?

That fork looks like one of the beginner Suntour forks...

Go check this out:
SR Suntour North America

I did this a while back, the Raidon transformed my Aspect 940, kept me happy for another season...
The Raidon LO R Air is every bit of a $350 fork for only $189 plus Install.
Must be through your LBS I think
Well worth it...

Note, The outer fork seals were really tight, a little dab of silicon solved that..

Looks like a 1 1/8 headset, the steerer length doesn't matter if you are buying it new since you will cut it down to size. You can't go wrong with RockShox or Fox IMO, but I've never ridden any other brand for long enough to develop an opinion. There are probably some good deals out there on forks right now. Good luck.

your bike; SCOTT Sports - SCOTT Aspect 720 Bike

your fork; Details - SR SUNTOUR Cycling

also, keep in mind 95% of uprated forks are going to be 15mm as opposed to your 9mm QR, so you're probably going to have to upgrade your front hub.

if you're a wrench, i would even looking into converting your current fork to a dual air , but make absolutely sure you know what you are doing/getting yourself into.

A little beside the point but but since you just started I would not sweat the fork, just ride the bike, replace stuff when it breaks and save the money for a riding skill class, better bike down the road etc..

The fork is a suntour xcr, remote lockout with rebound adjustment, does not say if its air or coil. Does you fork have a cap on the fork that saids air? If so, its a decent fork, just 1 rung below the raidon, and similar performance.

Looked it up and it is the coil version, i think worth upgrading to a good air fork.

HINKSTER This is good advice! That fork is not the best, BUT it works fine. You should use it up. After you can do the rough parts on your trail in two or three gears smaller (faster), you will need and appreciate that upgrade. Meanwhile focus on how +/- 5 psi in the front tire makes the bike turn different/better. MORE air gives 2 advantages, less flats and faster rolling. LESS air makes more traction = better cornering = faster lap times. Your bike is great for learning about that and how your body english (weight placement) affects handling. Enjoy
