Any suggestions? I have an Ardent 2.4 on the way but wondered if the fork could handle a wider tire and if so which one? Intrigued by the 27.5 plus concept but don't want to buy a new bike.

Rim width? 26" rim, lots of space there.
My bike has a 27.5 Fox 32 fork (2015 model I believe). I want to run a 27.5 tire on my 27.5 rim. Just thought someone might know what the largest tire you can run with this combo?
I am not trying to ghetto this, just want a bigger front tire.
Suggestions?

Pretty sure you can fit a 2.4" tire on it. Depends on the exact model of tire and wheel you're trying to put on though. I remember someone telling me that if you're trying to put on a tire larger than 2.3" you should really check the clearances against the owners manual (I'm sure it's online somewhere).

EDIT: Just googled it, here you go. Installing a 32MM Fork

Thanks, looks like the 2.4 inch ardent that I ordered is the largest I can fit on it.

26" fork info......

Sure you can fit a 2.4 on there but how it's going to work once mounted. Its going to slow your steering and you could sense more side to side fork flex and fore and aft under breaking with such a large tire nstalled on a 32mm stanchion fork. Rim width and front rotor side?

Should work just fine. 2.4 inch is not that big of tire. I have one mounted up front on my 29er hardtail and it is a wonderful tire. Ever run a 2.4 Ardent yourself?? Pretty lightweight and hooks up well. With EXO protection they are bombproof and they set up tubeless easily.
On my 29er I have a standard width rim and a 160 rotor and an older Reba Fork with QR. No issues with slow handling, braking or flexing.
I think rider size is more critical than rim width and rotor size. I am a little guy!
My 27.5 bike is a 2015 Ellsworth Absolute Truth. Got a killer deal new on it so I pulled the trigger, but the 27.5 plus size intrigues me. I just noticed that Ellsworth is making the Epiphany in 27.5 plus size. Sure would like to check that ride out!
My 29er hardtail has been through the mill including several long bikepacking races. Love it but for our rocky and rough singletrack trails around here I want full squish and I think the 27.5 plus size would be a hoot.

Did the Ardent 2.4 fit? According to Fox's spec sheet, FORK- 2016 32mm User Specification Drawings | Bike Help Center | FOX, 2.4 is the largest tire that will fit that fork. Remember, though, not all 2.4 are the same. The Ardent 27.5 x 2.4 ETRTO width is 61mm whereas for Schwalbe Nobby Nic 27.5 x 2.35 and Conti Trail Master 27.5 x 2.4, for example, both have ETRTO width as 60mm. Not a tremendous difference but if it's close that difference may matter. The width and shape of the rim may also affect the tire shape and therefore its clearance if it's close.

While I haven't used that specific tire, I'm pretty sure it will fit. My 2.35 Hans Dampf fits with room to spare in my Float 32. The tire measures 64mm wide at 20psi (23i rim), and is also pretty tall. It's a giant tire--probably the biggest "non 27+" tire out there--and it's not close to having clearance issues w/the fork (the frame is a different story...).

The 2.4 ardent fit just fine with room to spare. Not much bigger than the 2.2 ardent that it replaced. I went to the plus size facebook page and was told that the
WTB 2.8 Trailblazer tire will fit the fork as well so I ordered one and it is on the way. I think the 2.4 will find it's way to the back of the bike and I will run the 2.8 tire up front.

I run a 2.35 NN up front on my beaten EMD rigid forked 29er and like it alot but when i used the same tire with a 29f fork it flexed a bit on me. I suppose it also has something to do with how you ride and bar set up as well. Best of luck...

Flex could come from the different fork, a wimpy wheel or any number of things. The front end of my 27.5 with a through axle and tapered head tube is plenty stiff. Again being a little guy I don't punish my equipment as much as my buddy who weighs 100 pounds more.
Will report back on how it fits and works.

I mounted up the WTB "2.8" inch tire and it fits a standard fox 27.5 fork fine with room to spare. I mounted the Ardent 2.4 in the back. Initial impressions are good. Set up tubeless no problems. Not too much wider than the 2.4 Ardent but a bit taller. I have standard rims on it so I am sure it would spread out a bit with wider rims but going to stay with the standard rims at this time.

Well went on a tire buying binge. Two 2.4 Ardents, 2.4 Goma, 1 WTB trail blazer 2.8, one WTB breakout 2.5, and one 3.0 WTB Bridger.
On my standard rim they all fit my 27.5 Fox 32 fork even the 3.0 Bridger! I let all of the air out of the fork and the crown did not contact the 3.0 tire.
The 3.0 Bridger is a huge tire and the biggest I would ever go on my fork. It looks burly and beefy and makes you smile but it is a big heavy tire, probably best suited for the desert riding season or playing around in rough rocky single track.
I have a bikepacking trip planned and the Ardent 2.4 tires went back on.
In my opinion for what I do 3.0 would be the max I would want to run and my sweet spot is more in the 2.4 inch range. I haven't tried the Goma yet but I have one on our 26er tandem and it is an awesome tire although heavier than the Ardent.
