@dtm2525, here is a dilemma, this really needs to be made with a flexible plastic material to make the fit good. But Shapeways does not allow selling their Elasto-Plastic (kind of like those old gel phone cases). Most home users don't have their printers set up for filaments like NinjaFlex (TPU like material). The other thing I have found, is if you use a service like
3D Hubs, the setup charge is way higher than Shapeways, some of these guys are charging as much as $20 for the setup fee. Their one primary advantage is if they are local, you can usually get your print the same day (sometimes within hours). For instance the closest local printer to me that will print in NinjaFlex is 180 km away, his standard fees are $10 setup and then $2 per cubic cm of printer space (~$3 for the cap) plus shipping. This for a part that costs less than $10 total at Shapeways.
If you go the library route, it is almost as simple as download from Thingiverse, upload to printer and hit the print button. Usually someone can help with part orientation and printer settings. Once you start the print, depending on how fine you print it, go read a book or go home and come back the next day to pick it up. Now if there is a flaw or error, you start that whole process again.
I added another file to the
Thingiverse entry, there are now two lens caps, one for the bare camera and another for the waterproof case. The case one is of course wider and shorter than the bare camera lens cap.
By the way I wasn't really fast, I made that cap up on Feb 14th and it was already up on Thingiverse.
