I can pick this up for $35 locally. It'll be use to true wheels and eventually build some. Worth it? My main concern is dealing with through axles. This actually wouldn't be a huge deal for me since I have hope hubs with QR adapters but I'm sure it'll be a concern at some point.

I'd offer $20-25. The other concern with old true stands is if you have 29" or 27.5" wheels (maybe even 26" by the looks of this one) is that they don't always work with tires mounted in them if that matters to you. I like the storage compactness of that stand but if size doesn't matter i would just build a Musson stand (pic near the bottom).

If you are really doing it right, you shouldn't have a tire on the wheel when truing it. Not only are you measuring the side to side but checking for high or flat spots from spoke tension and hits.

That stand may not be pretty but it is a hell of a lot better than the old standby of zip-ties on the frame and using a bike stand.

Jesus... That Super B stand cost more than TWICE what my Park TS2.2 cost.
Funny I got it for about half what they were going to charge for the Park stand that did not include the dial guages.

This is what I really want one day (but would have to build a lot of really nice wheels to justify it): Truing stand

Art work and engineering all in one amazing tool.

Damn... That is nice.

At $35 it will pay for itself after 3-4 wheel truings. Go for it. If you don't like it you could re-sell it and recoup most if not all of your money.

I've used these small folding stands a few times. They're not the greatest, but they're better than not having a truing stand and the price is right for a home workshop.

I have this stand. I had to modify it to make it worth using and it's still not brilliant. It gets the job done, I've built wheels on it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one. $5, yeah!

A friend of mine built the Musson one and I think it's excellent. In fact the book is very good and if you want a truing stand you should invest in the book too.

Just picked up the same one from what I can see. It's rougher than yours and got it for $25.
Looking to build a road wheelset first then ordering some bhs hubs for my 650b bike. It uses 15mm qr up front and 135 qr in the back so not sure which mods I'll have to make to the stand yet.

The arms are too close together and the 25mm axle won't fit in the slots. The other thing I recommend is moving the little plate/brace that holds the arms up so that the arms stand vertically. Leaning back the way they do it is surprising how much they seem to get in the way of your hands as you turn the wheel in the stand. having them vertical is a bit better and it is still stable as there is plenty of weight in the stand.
