I've got a "general frame type" question, and I'm not asking about specific brands. I'm curious about anyone that has compared a 4" linkage (horst, faux bar or VPP type) to a 5" single pivot, or a 5" linkage to a 6" single pivot. Does the extra travel mitigate any "simpler suspension harshness" with everything else being equal? I'm not asking about any braking effects, just how smooth the suspension feels when going over bumps.
If you want to comment on other effects, like pedal feedback, frame stiffness, etc. that could help too. It's just a question that's been rolling around in my head for a while. I like the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach, but I'm not hard on my bike so a linkage system would be fine too.
I'm hoping someone with more experience can give me some insight and help me decide on the frame type for my next bike purchase. I do mostly trail type rides without any drops or jumps in a "North Shore" environment on the BC coast. Maybe that's extreme/aggressive XC.
I ride with a couple guys on Bullets, and I currently have a Superlight.
Thanks,
Chris
