Is an original purple Pugs a collector's item or just an old fat bike?
Hey Rob
I had the same idea, I've added different wheels and a lefty to mine, but I kept all the original parts. So I figure they didn't make too many frames in 05, and if the current popularity continues, they should go up in value, eventually. The endos feel like plastic now, but I'm going to get a new frame, transfer the wheels and fork, and put the whole bike in the garage for a few years, I don't think you could get more than $600-700 right now and for that money I'd hold onto it

Yeah Dan, you're probably right. But if I have 3 fat bikes people might think I have a bit of a problem. Yours is probably a large, so you could at least get a left testicle from MendonCycleSmith for it...

keep your old Pugs as it`s a real versatile frame set and can be built into loads of differant wheel/hub/bar options ;)

Still running 2 original Pugs here- an 06 Purple MK 1, frameset bought unbuilt still in the box from Ireland 3 years a go, probably making it the last Purple Pug to be built. When i blogged it i got 3 emails from the USA offering to buy it before i frame proofed it and cut the steerer tube etc
Here it is when new

It has been IGH, 3x9, SS, 29+.29er, flat bars, drop bars and risers, over 10,000 miles and still going strong, keeps up with friends on carbon bikes 10-12 lbs lighter :D

Been stock piling spares for them when stuff turns up cheap,
Got 2 sets of mint condition Marge rims, PW Square taper BB`s, Middleburn cranks. steel 9 spd cassettes etc...

Takes 2 secs to loosen the rear brake caliper and it`s real easy to remove the rear wheel, just pull out a good lenght of chain before you pull out the wheel ;)

I love the 1st gen Pugs! I've heard folks say there was an issue with the rear disc mount on the old Pugsleys. What's that all about?
The disc mount was in a location such that if you run with the wheel all the way forward, like most geared Pugsleys do, you have to loosen the mounts and swing the brake caliper out of the way to remove the rear wheel.
Later models moved the mounts slightly so this is no longer a problem.
It really is not difficult but does add an extra step an requires a tool for wheel removal.
