Anyone go to the Whiskey Off Road race a couple months ago? I'm moving to Prescott soon and was wondering what kind of bikes people were racing / winning on. I saw a couple pictures of 29er Hard Tails, but I wander if that's the majority of bikes for that area?

How much money ya got?

I did it on a 26" geared hardtail. Of course I finished no where near the top, but I did finish. Is your intent to win or just to get a bike to ride around on. These are very different things.

Why when moving to Prescott would you buy a bike just to win the Whiskey course? Its a fun event, but overall, not the finest Prescott has to offer with about half being on dirt roads.

give us a shout on FB Prescott Mountainbiking, Prescott Mountainbike Alliance, and the many group rides every week. As far as type bikes, you'll see everything from SS-long travel trail bikes, to fattbikes. But the medium travel FS 29er is probably the most popular all around bike here. The WOR course itself, is not the "best" trails here, but offers the full range of trails and distance to make it race course and kick your ass. The best trails are not on the course itself, so a WOR specific bike may not necessarily be best for everyday riding. Myself, I ride a Superfly 100 29'er, good all-arounder, but on some rides want a Pivot Mach 6 for Sedona and the Dells, fattbike for snow/mud/sand, gravel grinder for forest roads, and sometimes a good bikepacker. When I moved here, I discovered no bike fits as easily as it did in Phoenix. :/
