just mounted mine up and they feel great, after partial bed-in feel more powerful and crisper than the bb-7 sl i took off
the sl's stopped ok but not great, better after switch to metal pads. noise and fiddle factor were the biggest issues

also looks like he needs to back out one pad a bit

The Spyre feels "crisper" because of the high return spring tension. It does nothing to improve the braking, and increases the effort required.
I always set my BB7 spring tension to the minimum required to open the pads to keep the hand effort as low as possible. (Always use EBC Gold metallic pads, too,)

not sure how firmer spring would make it feel crisper, what i am referring to is the abrupt firmness of the system, which always felt mushy on the bb-7 sl's-nothing at all like the crisp feel of my wife's bb-7's
shiggy-not sure if you saw my thread about it but i could see the caliper deform on the sl's as i squeezed the lever- i think that is the source of the mush-maybe they were somehow a bad casting

right now i have more power with less hand pressure than the sl's ever had-even with the spring return, which i agree is excessive

I would call that firmer, not crisper.
To me, that means the TRP has a lower mechanical advantage. Translates to less power for the same hand effort, which is about what I experienced when I compared the TRP and BB7 Road, and why I went back to the Acids.

i see what you are saying and in general it might be true, but in this case i would have to call the avids spongy - and since i could actually see the caliper bend/ deform (which i have not seen on other brakes including other bb-7's) thats what i am going to blame

thanks for your inputs

Hello Imperov,

I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience. Have you contacted us about them? The return spring can feel quite stiff in the hand, but once they are hooked up, with compressionless housing, they feel great. I have these brakes on my road bike and I think they are quite nice. Please contact us if you are still having problems. info@trpbrakes.com

Thank you!
Katie

PS This was supposed to be from my work account...
