Hello everyone
My goal is to build an XC racer, size S (16") and to be under 11kg and also under 1000euros.
I need to get a better spec'd bike than this one
Radon Bikes » ZR Team 8.0 SE
The build will take place over the next 3-4-5months and all the parts must be sourced from Europe. I know i can find great deals in US but the custom taxes kill any deal.
The bike will be 3x10 42/32/24 and crank lenght 170 due to rider size. Also the wheel size will be 26". Rider weight around 65kgs.

The questions i`m asking are:
- is it doable ?
- frame + fork suggestions ? at the moment the frames i have in mind are either RCZ Race at around 170euros and 1560gr for size S or Scapim Kyoto at around 220euros and 1490gr for the same S size. Both are 1 1/8. I would like some tapered head frames but cannot find any in this price range.
- should i hunt cheap Shimano XT components or i can go for SLX without any weight or performance penalty ?
- choice of wheels. My initial choice are the Mavic Crossride who last year could have been bought on sales for around 120-130euros. Suggestions are welcome
- the brakes most likely will be SLX with normal pads and RT66 discs. Should i consider Avid's or any other brands ?

Thank you

Under 1000€ ? Might be possible but you'll need to hunt A LOT and maybe go with some 2nd hand deals. Might want to search for a few china cf parts on ebay and the like too.

bike-discount even though is a great store, does not ship full bikes to my country. so i would be forced to have someone in Germany order one bike for me and then ship it to me. that would be 20euros for the shipping to Germany and then anything from 50-100euros to have it shippped to me.

Also that Radon weights 11.5kgs.. a little bit too much.

I actually created a nice xls to track the expenses. Some of the prices are (like the Reba fork) are based on this year promotions from the winter. I hope to happen the same this year

Component Brand/Model/other details Price Shipping costs
Frame RCZ Race 16" 170.00
Crank Shimano XT 42/32/24 170mm M780 120.00
Cassette Shimano SLX 11 36 33.00
Chain KMC 10X 20.00
Rear derailleur Shimano SLX 38.00
Front derailleur Shimano XT 23.00
Shifters Shimano XT SL-M780-I 58.00
Wheels Mavic Crossone 140.00
Fork RS Reba RL 100mm/9QR or 15mm 200.00
Brakes SLX brakes with RT66 rotors 130.00
Stem Answer Rove AM 80mm 31.50 4
Handlebar Answer ProTaper 685 XC/Trail flat bar 25.20
Seatpost raceface ride 27.00
Saddle X1 25.00
Saddle qr RCZ (only if not included with the frame) 10.00

Somewhere at 1055euros with actual prices. Hope to have at least 10% off during the autumn/winter sales.

With those components you might be close but i don't think you'll hit your <11kg goal with those, that wheelset for example is quite the "pig" at almost 1900g :/

Well.. I know you are right. I have the very same CrossRide wheels and while not ligth are rather nice and strong. Again the wheels will be purchased after the fork sometime during the autumn.

Now the good news.. I have managed to purchase a nice Scapin Kyoto frame for 190euros shipped brand new, seat clamp included.
Another site with the above mentioned frame
SCAPIN Kyoto frame white/rot | Free shipping!
The weight for size S should be 1490gr.
Also ordered the Answer Rove AM stem 80mm length and Answer Protaper XC/Trail 685 flat expert handlebar.

I shall post pics once they arrive.. obviously if anyone cares

chinese carbon wheels $500 (1550g) - light bicycles
chinese carbon frame $350 1400g - flyxii
XT drivetrain/brakes - $600 (merlincycles)
Fork - 100mm reba $200 (from above) is that a used price?
assorted bits (stem, bars, post, seat, grips, cables, pedals) - $400

easton xc70 bars are $70
easton carbon seatposts arent too much
chinese carbon seat - very cheap

I built this bike for my wife including a custom pearl white powder coat and custom stickers for just over $500 (it was actually probably less but I cant remember). It weighs in the 24lb range and should weigh less than 24lb with a tubeless setup. I purchased the base bike for $100 off a classified ad and used what I could. I think you can build a bike for less than 1,000 euros to meet your goals.

Like 8months later but just in time for the new season here is the final build

Paid extra 200EUROs than budgeted and reused by old (2013 model) Mavic Crossride wheels and my old (but almost new) Nobby Nic + Racing Ralph tires.
Also extra 30 EUROs went the the lbs that build it, bleeded the brakes and did all the adjustements.
Unfortunately I have no clue what is the weight, I can guess is around 10.5kgs or maybe even less.
