Has anyone built up a Straggler that is under 20 lbs?

If so, I'd like to hear about it.

Finally got around to weighing it, 28.5 lbs with the following parts replaced on stock build:

Stan's ZTR Crest 29er wheels w/ Hope Pro 2 EVO hubs
Schwalbe Marathon Deluxe 700x35 tires
Shimano RD-5700-GS rear derailleur
Bontrager Race Select 110mm stem

I also had my Freeload/Thule Pack-N-Pedal rack installed. For those that have seen this rack, you know it's a too much of a pain to take off/on, so I left it on. No clue how much it weighs, but it doesn't feel very heavy.

I specifically remember that the stock wheels/tires combo are a good 2 lbs heavier than the Crests+Marathons, which means that the stock build has to be +30 lbs. The seatpost is around 275g even though it looks like the shop cut it short. I think at full length it's reported at like 300g. I'll weigh the stock stem at some point, but I'd guess it's probably a bit of a pig.

I'm not debating the point of building a custom bike, not at all. But if you were worried about weight of the final build, why start with a relatively heavy frame? Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Straggler (I have an old Cross-check that just won't quit), but I don't care if my bike is a few pounds heavier than it could be.

I'm a similar size, 6'5" 265 or so. I've got a 'cross check that I abuse the heck out of, and it holds up just fine. No idea how much it weighs, probably 25+, with what I consider a very nice build. No need for it to be BMX-bike rugged (profile cranks on a 'cross bike, dang!), but I certainly don't expect it to be light either.
Here's me on my 'cross-check (it's a 62cm frame, but it looks tiny when I'm on it).

I don't think it's unreasonable to build up a light-weight Surly. I've got a CC (set up SS) with no super weight weenie parts and it comes in at 21lbs. Frames aren't the lightest, but I personally don't think that really matters that much. Nice light and stiff wheelset will do wonders for the bike.

A 20lb Straggler is a unique goal. I really don't see any reason it can't be done given enough money and time. I'm thinking the fork and wheels would be the best, and most expensive, places to start. After that there aren't too many places to cut major weight from. Good luck
