Hi all,

Today a shinny new Salsa Moto Rapido (18 inch) frame arrived for me and its the last part needed to build up my first light bike (first bike "build" of any type in fact), over the next few days my pile of tasty parts will become what I'm hopping will be one of the sweetest hardtails I've seen :D

The frame with der hanger and V stubs weighed in at 1490g, with the parts I've bought for it I'm hopping for a finished weight around 20lbs (high 19's with silly rubber). I'll post finished pic's/full parts spec/weight etc when its all together. Build will be along the lines of... 05 WB XC.8 fork, X0 & XTR drivetrain, Avid Ti V's, Carbon bar & post, CK headset, XTR wheels etc..

Its been a good start to the week :)

I've only had time for quick spin on the bike paths near my home but first impressions are its goes like a rocket !! (my other bike is a 33lb FS). I've still got a few parts to change out once I've confirmed the stem length etc. Last changes will be (at this point  ) a F99 stem with Ti bolts, Extralite seat post and Exustar Ti pedals, that should according to the WW site will drop ~230g for a final weight of around 8.95kg / 19.7lb :)

Here are the spec's, feel free to comment and give tips on possible changes.

The frame and cabling

Just a little info on how the build went since there seems to be not many Motos about or not many people are talking about them. I thought the frame was very well finished, nice paint work including the finer decals, the carbon stay section is very nicely shaped.. MMmm tasty :) The BB and headset sections were ready to go out of the box and my king and token parts fitted with no problem. The frame cabling points make for minimal use of cable outers, both shifter cables only use outers from the h/bar to the frame just under the headset on the down tube and run as bare inners over the rest of the frame with the exception of a short section of outer for the rear der. The two rear brake cable points along the top tube are of a larger more open design the allow you to use a variety of brake cable options using the parts that came with the frame kit, one of the options would allow for neat cabling of hydro or full length outer cable brakes, I used the other option that used a couple of nicely machined alloy cups that kept the use of cable outers to a minimum. Parts that came with the frame were.... 2x alloy brake line cups, 2x plastic brake line collars (for hydro lines), 2x V brake stubs (pair in frame as well), 2x V brake stub blanking plugs, 2x plastic clips for disc brake line retention on carbon stay (cable ties could also be used)

Just a last comment on the Avid Flak Jacket cable kits I used, they look very nice, they shift well, they have plenty of options with all the parts they include and the red sheaths even go with the colour scheme on my bike but the unlike Avid claims the outer sections are far from light weight, I'd hate to think how much weight a 'full length' outers setup would weigh.

Do the black tubes under the BB come with the kit or the frame?
They are part of the Avid kit and tube that runs up thru the frame to the front der terminates with a nice rubber boot to keep the dirt out. Normally the bare inner wire just runs thru the cable guide that is screwed to the BB housing.

that is a gorgeous build. I love the clean look of the WB forks. I'm considering picking up one of those ec90 carbon bars if I can - what do you think of them? flexy? confidence inspiring (within WW limits !) ?

I'm very happy with the EC90, when it came in the mail and I unpacked it I thought no way is this thing going be strong enough, but on the bike it feels no different than the flat alloy bar it replaced, no flex I can feel at all even when pulling on it climbing hills and now I dont give a second thought. The reviews of it here on mtbr also give it a high rating.

Just a side note... I couldn't resist ordering a set of Exustar Ti pedals last night and I have had confirmation they are in the mail today :) ... worked out to $138AU + post... I thought I was getting a good deal when I got my plain eggbeaters for $125AU + post on sale last year.

I use the EC90 SL Riser. I haven't had any problems with it at all. Its super light, no flex at all, and as far as my use has gone, it is a perfect bar.
