After 5 months of waiting, mine finally arrived over the weekend. I got some new Mavic Crossmax SLR's too which really add to look of the bike I feel. Super pleased with the setup. Time to get it dirty :)

Damn, your bike is absolutely pimptastic. Two requests. One, if you don't mind me asking, how much did that bike cost you? I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. Second...please post up more pics!

Thanks! I got 10% off the RRP price. I've added a carbon SLR seatpost and the wheels. Got 10% off everything so the whole thing stands me at about ÂŁ3600.

I spent last night getting everything setup - flipped the stem, set my sag, put some helicopter tape on the vulnerable areas and gave her a good coat of polish. I'll take some updated pics and upload later.

After putting my special order in since November, my bike finally showed up last Saturday. Flipped the stem also and put one of the bigger stem spacers on top to drop the riser bar down just a bit. First trail ride is tomorrow night, but I'm so eager to start upgrading this thing. What should I do first? Go tubeless? New wheelset? Seatpost? Handlebar? I got such a great deal on the bike, my wife gave me the go ahead to spend a few more bucks upgrading it.

Which version of Anthem? Alu or Carbon?

I'd look at wheels and tubeless first for sure. Strip down the wheels (remove cassette, rotors, tires) and weigh them naked so u know what your baseline is.

Great news your bike arrived. In my experience the best bang-for-buck upgrade is always going to come from a wheelset upgrade. I'm really pleased with the Mavic SLRs on mine. Seatpost and bars will save some more weight but outside of that I'd probably leave the bike standard.

First thing I did on AA1 was get a wolftooth NW and convert to 1x10. I replaced the handlebars with Enve risers carbon and got a shorter stem (same model as stock, because of OD2 limitation). Next in the list: 120mm fork, dropper & carbon wheels. I call my bike "Money Pit".

Matt, do you know how much the stock wheels weigh? I've had mine for about a week now, and I love it, but I'm a weight weenie and I'm wondering how much the SLRs saved you weight-wise...

Giant lists them as weighing 1655g, so they really arent bad. They just need the 36t star racket mod done to them.

I saw that in your post, with an Wolftooth chainring. Perhaps my post wasn't clear enough. Those Wolftooth or Race Face blades aren't available in my country. The Sram X01 chainrings with 104 BCD however is available, so i'm looking tot upgrade my SLX crank to 1 x 10 but I'm not sure the SRAM X01 chainring will fit. BCD looks right, does the SLX bolt fit the chainring or should i buy special SRAM bolts?
I can ship you a Pacenti 1x chainring, no problem.

Anthem Advance 1 First Ride
90 minutes. 12 miles, 1600 ft.

New bike is so not the old bike: a classic steel XC HT racer; Bontager Racelite

With all the carbon and suspension it's a little hard to feel the ground.
The bigger wheel must smooth things out, too. Much more comfortable than Bonti except for the wide bar popular today.

Double-checked seat position but feels okay. Adjusted position of controls. Going from V-brakes (XTR/ceramic rims) to hydraulic XTs is a trip but I had a little experience with hydraulics on my sons Yeti Arc Racer, a 29er Spot, and a TallBoy. So the one-finger thing was okay. Somehow front braking seems remarkably effective. Right Shifter is precise but feels "crunchy" in the shifter itself. Just a little thing. Not slow as with a dirty/worn cable housing but not as elegantly crisp as the old broken-in XTRs and XTs I have had in the past. Front shifting seems really clean. Taller gearing at the low end makes work for me as I use a stump-puller on steep climbs. Top speed seemed okay.

Handling was not as quick as my Bontrager with a slightly more slack head tube angle and just over 2 inches longer in the wheelbase. Also I think my stem is a bit long. It doesn't have the floppy wheel feel of a 29er though and was still nimble in the twisties and got up to speed quickly. It compares to the Carbon Tallboy in geometry and wheelbase but that was a 29er. Tires grip if given a chance. Stays planted on climbs. Wants to slide in the rear on steep downs. Slower pawl engagement than my Chris Kings but okay.

After a while I felt quite sure once on top of the bar and driving the front wheel. I'll wait and see on bar width/stem as it worked after a while.

There is a lot to learn but this bike will be just fine.
Nice!

Got the Anthem Advanced Model 1, which I believe only comes in Carbon. Good suggestion on stripping the wheels down and weighing them separately. I'll do that tonight after her first break-in ride in the trails. I am curious to see how close these wheels get to the manufacturer claimed 1655 grams.

I ran CrossMax SLRs on my XTC 29er last season. I loved those wheels! Stiff, light, and maintenance free! Plus they looked awesome! I may go that route again because they are priced in my budget. I would love to go back to Kings again or maybe try out the i9 Torch, but if I'm going to go above $1,000 for a wheelset, I may as well start looking at the Giant carbons from the Team model.

On the page I found on Giant's site they claimed 1700g. Those wheels aren't tooooo bad on weight, but u could def do better w/ carbon wheels!

I found on Giant's site that the carbon wheelset they use on the Team model is specced at 1400 grams. So if our wheels are anywhere near the 1655 they say it is also, the 255 grams is good for over a half pound of weigh savings. Although we won't get our beloved Chris King engagement, the weight savings and bling factor is almost enough to make me pull the trigger. Time to make a call to my local (awesome!) Giant distributor and see what kind of deal he can get me.

Also, you'll gain some stiffness in the carbon rims over the alu rims as well.

According to product literature I saved 215 grams swapping the standard wheels to Mavic SLRs. I don't have an accurate set of scales to confirm this though!

I saw 1440g quotes around the web for the 27.5 CrossMax SLRs. But when I looked at Mavic's site, they list 1570g for the 27.5s (which is still pretty good), and 1440g for the 26s.

I've been eyeing these wheels for a while now. How do you like them? Did you get to do any kind of A/B comparison between the Mavics and the Giants?
