Great stuff. I've been following the Roval wheel thread for a while.

I have a question regarding sizing. I'm thinking about getting an S-Works SJ WC HT for the 2014 race season.

I am wondering if there are any revised sizing recommendations for the 2014 SJ HT, since they got a lot longer (reach has increased by quite a lot!). My problem is that I am 180 cm tall (86 cm inseam), and I have a feel that I fall right between the two sizes. I currently ride a Cannondale F29 with a reach of 426 mm (it's a large). I don't know which size to get. I should probably add that I am riding in the elite category.

I will be able to demo a size M 2014 SJ WC HT later this month, but I'd like to do some research by my own first.

I notice Christoph Sauser was riding a large SJ WC HT in the last Leadville 100. 90 mm stem, and seat post with no setback. He's about the same height as I am.

Similar to a few others, will we see a shortened rear end on the new Stumpy FSR 29 line up similar to the Enduro or will that longer stay remain an inherent characteristic of the Stumpy line up?

In addition, I don't understand why I can get an Enduro Comp 29 with a Pike at $3400 but a Stumpy FSR Evo wont come with one until I dish out over $6K. I want a pike on the Evo Comp.

Lastly, for crying out loud, can you guys partner with a decent brake company. Every thread on this entire site speaks clearly that if you buy a ANY bike from the Specialized line up you need to be ready to drop proper (XT ish) brakes on the bike. At the $3K level, that's a lot of xtra cash.

The lack of these specifics in your line up has me considering jumping ship this spring. Any info or consideration is much appreciated.

I would love to ride a Carbon bike one day, but that day won't come for several years yet. So my question/comment is about the new technology the road department has come up with: SMARTweld.

1. (Allez) If SMARTweld really is that much stiffer/stronger/lighter why was it only used at the headtube? Why not also at the BB?

2. (Epic/Camber/Stumpjumper HT) SMARTweld is in at least its second MY, if it really is that much stiffer/stronger/lighter, why was it not implemented in the 14MY M5 MTB lineup?

I love my epic, but it was hard to give up over 4 lbs over my old 26 HT. If SMARTweld could drop 1/2lb off the frameset why not use it?

Thanks for taking the time to talk to the masses.

Hi i live in Sweden and i have the 2013 carbon expert Epic and i wonder as snow ice wind and in spring wet conditions are a fact.
how often do i need to clean and grease the pivots on the epic? i haven´t ridden more than perhaps 120km or so on it.
So do i need to consider that to clean the pivots and re-grease them now before the real season starts or say next autumn or so?

oh and also i love the bike best MTB i have ever owned and will probably have it until i can´t ride the woods anymore :)

Hey Joe,

So I had this question about my stock headset bearings for my 2012 Camber Carbon. I think I may have answered my own question. Could you please just double check my sleuth work before I go and buy some replacement bearings. Thanks!

Here's the link:

http://forums.mtbr.com/specialized/2012-camber-headset-bearing-direct-replacement-899788.html
@Mazukea
I think those bearings you linked to are incorrect. We use Campagnolo compatible 45x45 bearings in that headset, the ones you linked to are 36x45 bearings.

The owners manual for your bike does have some info about the headset and installation, it says this:
Specialized Camber carbon frames use a 1 1/8" (41.8mm x 8mm x 45°) Campagnolo
Standard compatible top and 1.5" (52mm x 7mm x 45°) bottom bearing. Ensure that
replacement bearings are compatible with the Specialized headset specification. No tools
are needed for installation or removal of both bearings. Grease bearing surfaces before
installation.

The full manual is posted online if you need to refer to anything else: http://service.specialized.com/coll...ized.com/collateral/ownersguide/new/assets/pdf/FSR---2012-Camber-FSR-Manual.pdf

Feel free to PM me if you need anything else!

I think that all bikes with a one by setup should have the option of having a smaller chainring other than a 32T - CAMBER EXPERT CARBON EVO 29 for example. It is the only reason why I'm doubting to buy it. The trails I usually ride have very steep climbs.

XX1 can use a 28 tooth and X01 can use a 30 tooth. If you want to go smaller, look at Raceface which I think can do a 26 tooth and is compatible with the 1 by setup.

Is the 2011 model the only year it will work? How do I know which one to specifically look for? I see the one in the link you sent me. There are several different types of graphics through the years.

Thanks!
Hmm...I did some digging and can't find any evidence that the older spindles were narrower. We did use a wider 84.5mm bb shell in 2010 before moving to a 73mm shell.
Aside from the newest 2014 crank, I am pretty sure any of the older ones will work. Although they changed a bit cosmetically over the years, they should all have a 91mm spindle length.

Specialized Joe,

Thanks for coming. Love my Enduro, I've owned nothing but Specialized throughout my mountain biking life.

1. 27.5 Enduro? If so, will be my next bike (in 4-5 years).
2. Why do you show parts for sale on your website, that are never in stock (derailleur hangers) but the dealer always has at a higher price?
3. Why don't you offer your base level wheels for sale on your website. I have a '13 Enduro Comp and do not see the wheels I have on my bike for sale, only the much higher end wheels.
4. My wheels on my Enduro are holding up well (1500 miles). They all say 2bliss ready. What do I need to run tubeless? Just some sort of sealant? Do I need tape also? I can't find a clear answer from anyone. My Dealer is not knowledgeable regarding this. I was given the valve stems when I bought the bike. Is that it?

My dealer is over an hour away so getting there for some of these parts can be a pain. I would like the option to purchase components from your website instead of going to the dealer for everything. I understand not selling complete bikes, but individual components should be available.

Rock
Lets see what I can answer here...
1. In regards to 650B/27.5 bikes, I can only really comment about bikes we are currently making. We certainly are aware of whats happening in the market though and you're not the only rider who is itching for a 650B bike from Specialized!
2. I'll try and research this further, however I'm not too involved personally in that side of things around here.
3. Let me get back to you on this one...
4. The wheels and tires that came on your bike are 2bliss ready and the rims should have the brown rim strips already installed. I'd highly recommend giving it a try! All you need to do is install the valve stems and add some sealant. We use the Stan's sealant most of the time with great results. And just fyi, you might need a compressor to help inflate it the first time.

I'll start by saying that bike sizing is highly personal and there's no certain rules for height and bike size. With that said, when we redesigned the SJ HT for 2014 each size got about a 5mm longer TT than the previous generation.

I try and look at both stack and reach together when determining size for a bike. The SJ HT has a lower stack than the F29 so it will seem to have a longer reach as well. If you continue up the headtube on the SJ HT to a stack of 641mm (your current bike's reach) the reach on a large SJ becomes 431mm, only 5mm longer than your Cannondale.

I personally am about your same height and am waffling between a Med and Large on the HT. Let me know if you want to discuss the fit and sizing between bikes some more, I'll try my best to help!

Well I'm no Pro but I LOVE to ride off road! in the late 80s..88 I think... I bought Specialized tires, can't recall but I think they were Ground Controlls, and rims that came with Spec Sealed Bearing hubs..big deal then lol
Anyway..17+ years later..
My point THank You ALL for keeping the Hardrock alive. For the recreational MTBer it's an awesome bike..I ride the Sport frame 19", love it...it's taking aftermarket upgrades well and keeping the smile from ear to ear..
It's worked great for me 12 mos as new owner and MTB re-do-er lol
Thanks = my main point :p

Specialized_Joe - I'm picking up my Epic Expert WC today. What additional accessories come with the bike? I am assuming tubeless valve stems and rim tape? Does a shock pump come with it? Thanks!
