I recently moved from SoCa and use to use either dark grey (Rudy Project Kalyos) or change to my Kerosene with reflective lense (for road riding in bright light). Here in GA< I ride alot more thru forest and later in the afternoon. So, the sun factor is not as strong as it was in SoCa. I had some Tifosi's and used the rose leses and they seem to work really well in the shade of the trees. What color leses do you guys use?

Most of the time I wear orange only when the light gets very bright and when I stay above tree level most of the time I use amber (gold iridium blabla). When the brightness changes a lot (dark to light etc) I would go for orange or yellow and skip the grey and green ones.

i've switched to amber

and use them full time regardless of whether I'm in shade or not.

I use the standard grey/charcoal for sunshine (duh).

When it's getting dark, or really early in the morning, and everything is blue looking, I use yellow lenses. It make things a little sharper, easier to separate shapes of rocks from dirt, etc. When It's night, I use a headlight and clear lenses. I never use amber. I have them, but haven't had a need for them.

Transition lenses

I took my Julbo sunglasses in to the optomotrist store and had Transition, Amber, Blanko{Zero Perscription},lenses put in for 130.00 Canadian.they go 100% clear in the trails and very dark in the sun. good fpr all. Clear in the shop and dark outside. Don't have to change lenses anymore.

Gray lenses. Shadows are gray so, gray on gray.... = gray. Light colored (red/rose, yellow, orange) lenses highlight and show variances in terrain. The color choice will be up to you.

Personally... I use Orange most of the time.

Oakley's amber

I wear Oakley half-jackets - have dark-grey polarized for open, sunny rides.. amber for the woods and somewhat cloudy days.. clear for very cloudy days and night riding. I ride trails that are mostly shaded so the ambers are on 90% of the time. They're good enough during intermitent times you're in full sun to not make you wish you'd put a different set of lenses in. Oakley's amber is more of an orange color which patches what most of the other posts are saying. One side benefit of amber/orange lenses (often referred to as "happy" lenses) is that they tend to make the sky on a marginal day look better and the greenery in the woods really comes alive.

IMHO, it's hard to beat Oakley lenses:

I used to always use amber, but last year switched to yellow full time, for exactly the reasons you stated. I don't find them too bright, even on very sunny days, and I find charcoal way too dark for most every ride.

Polarized is the key....

I use rose/amber lenses all the time, but the key to me is they are Polarized. They crispen everything up and there is no glare at all. I only use my yellow non-polarized lenses somwtimes during dawn and dusk to lighten things up.
