·i'm not a hyper patriot,
everytime he wins the tour, i get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. i remember the days before greg lemond reading TDF standings, where american riders were always listed in a seperate group, always in one hundred and fifteenth place.
i wish our guys could dominate in mountain bike racing like we did back in the day...

The main reason Rasmussen was a high GC contender
was because the Yellow Jersey let him go and succeed on a breakway. If that had not happened he would have just been one of those guys who looked really great in the Mountains running with the big dogs. Having said that when they turned up the heat he fell off the back, albeit with some pretty good riders. He was very much like Thomas Voekler last year. They made a big deal out of a Frenchman wearing thre Yellow Jersey for 10 days (Tour de FRANCE, he's FRENCH) but lost massive amounts of time every day in the Jersey.It took a while, even for OLN, to say that this race was for second place and, to create some interest, they focused on the new phenom idea. Mickael got his Yellow Jersey just as the race got to the mountains. It was pretty easy to see that his performance in the Prologue predicted woe in the Final Individual Time Trial. Add to that some bad luck, lack of experience, some bad Team support and you have a nightmare I would not wish on anyone. My heart really went out to Michkael Rasmussen. He owned me though when I saw that he looked pretty much like I do when I go over the bars.

Pity Rassmussen didn't do like Lance and put in some serious time on the TT bike seemed like he was totally at a loss as to how to ride/handle it. At least he improved in the TT event from 171st on the first one to 76th I believe (can't remember for sure) in the last one. Man was that 2nd fall a nasty endo.
