Hello all
Never done this before and I was wondering if it's possible to convert a wirebead tire to tubeless.
Please advise
thanks!

From what I have read, it may or may not work. I don't think its typically recommended though, but that may have more to do with the fact that a lot of people inclined to run tubeless think that wire bead tires are inferior. I'm going to guess that you don't have tubeless rims (like me) so you will have to use a tubeless kit anyway. The Stan's kit comes with way more sealant than you need to do the initial conversion, so if the wire bead tires don't work, you'll only be out some sealant. I bought tubeless tires, but they're not real cheap. Coat me about $150 to convert. I have a feeling that the wire bead tires may be tough seat and you will have to use an air compressor. I think I could have used a frame pump for mine. So, it's worth a shot, just know that you may end up having to buy new tires anyway.

The bead material has nothing to do with converting a non-tubeless tire to tubeless. Though I will say a wire bead will have less chance of blowing off the rim than a non-tubeless folding bead. I have converted both Kenda Nevegal and IRC Mythos wirebead tires to tubeless with zero burps or blow offs in the past. I did this on WTB Speed Disc rims with both split tube and Gorilla tape methods. But YMMV and try at your own risk.

Good Luck

Strip to high?

Ok, I've started this process.
I've drilled out the stem hole and installed the rim strip with the valve.
I noticed the strip just barely squeezes under the bead, however…
Is that correct or should it leave more space for the tire?
Fyi, I left the old tape on the rim per the instructions…
Thanks

quick question: how much tape did you have to use? i've used all the tape that came with the kit and will probably need to by more... is it normal to use that much? thx
