hi, I am trying to find out if by removing spacers from my rockshox recon race solo air (2009 model, i think) it will increase the travel from the current 100mm to 130mm?
I am not sure if it is possible with my model, or if the fork came available in three different travel lenghts.
on my fork it mentions the riders weight and PSI required. it has a small chart that list forks under a column for 80mm and also info for a column for 100-130mm. Does this mean that if I remove the spacers, I will just increase the travel? do these forks have spacers to begin with?
I have no cash to buy a new fork, and I dont want to ruin these forks by trying to adjust the travel if it is not possible.

would someone know more info on this, as I have overheard that it is just a trick of removing the spacers. I am guessing that this will also void any warranty that I have on this fork.

thanks.

Yes, max travel on the Recon is with no spacers installed. I'm not sure if the RACE goes to 130mm, but it should go to 120mm. I have a Recon Trail and it goes to 140mm, it's a thru-axle version. The SRAM site has the technical manual online and they have instructions on changing the spacer configuration. If you remove the fork from the bike and keep it level, you can do the job with no loss of oil. If the fork has not been serviced in a while I would recommend draining and changing the semi-bath (splash) oil.

Do you typically work on your forks? If you are changing the length yourself which can be done in 20 minutes the addition of bath oil only adds another 5. I only bring that up to save you a few bucks.

I am a roadie who picked up mountain biking last year, my road bike is a rigid :) so i dont have much experience with fork tuning and service, but if it is simple, I may just give it a try with the help of some friends who know more.
