Hi everyone. Just wondering if people have used rimtours in the past and what their experience was. I am planning on scheduling a Moab trip in April-2006 and they have a tour to the Kokopelli Trail. I am planning on going by myself, which means they will probably set me up with a bunch of other folks. Here is their description:

"This is a journey through the lands of the mythical "Kokopelli" or wandering flute player exemplified in Southwest rock art. Our route ranges from singletrack to slickrock, aspens to pinyon pines and offers sights that will wow your senses and terrain that will definitely test your riding skills.

"The Kokopelli Trail begins with challenging singletrack, leading to fun, rugged 4 wheel drive trails that touch periodically on the Colorado River. From the Top of the World we descend into Fisher Valley and Onion Creek Canyon, one of the most beautiful and colorful spots in Moab's Canyon Country. The final day offers a choice of riding Moab's legendary Porcupine Rim or Slickrock Trails."

So the questions are:
Has anyone been in a Rimtours trip?
What was your experience?
Can you recommend other tour companies/guides?
What about the Kokopelli trail? Is it worth it to make the trip all the way from the east coast?

Thank you all in advance for the input.

A friend of mine just did a ride called Babes n' Bikes in the Backcountry that Rim Tours helped put together. She had a blast. No complaints at all 'cept for some saddle sores and worn out legs.

I did Kokopeli Trail with Rim Tours.

It was the best adventure I've ever done on a mountain bike. 5 days away from cars and telephones. Meeting a bunch of international riders, great camping spots, trails, and food cooked for you. The guides are expert riders and bike mechanics, all EMT trained, and most are experts on local geology and plants in the area, and they have a really fun attitude. It was culture shock to return to Moab after emersing in the timeless wilderness and fun community that grew among our rider group out on the trail. Some of us still stay in touch and it's been almost 10 years.

Epic. Memories for a lifetime.

White Rim in 3 days

I did the White Rim in 3 days with Rim Tours. Had a blast. They were well-organized and the food was great.

I went on the tour by myself. There were 3 other groups of 3 to 4 people on the tour. They were all cool. I never felt like a loner.

I would do it if I were you.

I've done several Tours with Rim Tours

I have always thought they were great. I did a Fruita Singletrack Tour, North Rim of the grand Canyon and a Bryce to Zion Tour. I loved them all and was hoping to join them for a Gooseberry Mesa trip this November but alas I was the only person to sign up and they ended up canceling the tour! :(

Another outfit I would check out would be Magpie Adventures. Mike and Maggie used to be with Rim Tours and were the guides my wife and I always requested. Very fun guides and tremendous riders. I believe they have the tour you are interested in.

If you live in Jersey and need a bike case drop me a line. We use ours once or twice a year and they gather dust the rest of the time...

High marks for Rim Tours! Great people and a well run organization. Denice, the office manager, is very helpful and will get you on the right tour for your riding ability and interests.

If you want to meet a phenomenal guide for a day tour, ask for Aaron Braggs - he is a Moab local and knows all of the secret trails and since his father was the Head Ranger at Arches National park and his mother an archeaologist, his knowledge of the area is very interesting to hear about as you are riding along.

If this is a one time thing...

Box it. Way cheaper than a bike case. Just don't put any faith into shipping insurance. My wife lost her bike with the "Brown" shipping company and they gave her the run around until after 15 days the bike, showed up to the bike shop. Too bad that was the same day we finished our tour. The bike was pretty banged up too. The next year we bought cases. They paid for themselves in two trips.

If you really want a case, I would buy a used one and sell it for what you paid for it. Or, look into a soft case.

1. Yes
2. Great time, great people, good groups.
3. No, we have always used RIm Tours. Though the tour companies and staff get along with one another, and sometimes share a bit of the ride, meals and camp sites.
4.Yes, there are also many other tours (though the Durango one kicked our asses!)

We have done tours with Rim to White Rim, Durango and Bend and are planning another this year. The staff is great and worked with us in getting trips together, in fact the Bend trip did not have enough riders for them to do the tour, but the made the tour happen for us anyway. In fact Matt Hebbard (the owner and Mountain Bike Hall of Fame dude) was our tour guide. Great food, good to great sites for camping and well the trails are outstanding.

I've done two trips with Western Spirit and was completely thrilled both times (White Rim and The Maze). Super guides, extremely knowledgable, exceptional riders, incredible food.

Haven't travelled with Rim Tours, so can't give you feedback there.

I'm really itching to do another Rim Tours Tour...

Which one are you guys planning?
We are looking at a couple of them. Trail of the Ancients looks interesting because of the history and lore, Bryce to Zion due to the length and it along with the Grand Canyopn tours were recommended by staff. Durango #2 is on the wish list as welll as it was a challenge. We often ask the tour guides what their favorites are as they have to ride them a "few" times and if thay ain't tired of them, we know we wouldn't be.

Once things get close I'll post to see if a mini MTBR gathering can be had. Of course the Cabo fishing / drink fest trip this year looks good as well! If we do not do a major trip this year we typically do a couple of long weekend ones.
