cross roads - Trail, casper, Wyoming

DESCRIPTION

realy fast, flat single track with alot of quick ups, and down, and turns. this trail is perfect for riding after work, it gets boring quite fast if you ride it every day, but if you are looking for something different try this trail at night. its soooo badass, you cant recognize anything and it seems like youre hauling ass when actually you are going about 5 mph slower than you would in the day time, and you are allways seeing thins like deer, skunks, cats, and the ocasional tree that just came from nowhere. to wrap it up in a nice pretty pacage, this trail KICKS ASS! at night, and its still kinda cool in the daytime.

No, these are NOT technical trails, but Cross Roads (a.k.a. North Casper Park) is a good place for a beginner to learn riding off-road on a variety of terrain (dirt, gravel, sand, mud, grass, cactus, short steep uphills), or in early season to tune-up the bike and make sure it (and you) are working properly before heading out on more challenging terrain. Watch out for the abundant prickly pear cactus, or you'll also get lots of practice repairing flats...

Numerous loops on single-track and 2-track dirt/gravel/grass on floodplain

Casper Mtn County Nordic ski trails are a lot of fun, more technical riding, on both single-track dirt/rock and 2-track gravel, in summer (June - Oct) after the snow has melted, mud has dried out, surface has firmed up. Higher elevation, trees/shade, and flowing Elk Horn Creek make this a cooler escape from the shadeless heat in town for you and your doggies. Ski trail maps are available from Natrona County Parks on line.

Muddy Mtn. also has fun dirt and gravel trails (same season as Casper Mtn). on BLM surface. However, I have not personally found as many trail loops here and kept running into private property fencing...others more knowledgeable...

Lot s of fast single track. Ridable most all year long. Yes it will get boring after too long but is great while waiting for the snow to melt off of Casper or Muddy Mountains. Its great for beginners due to it being so flat. We have a race there about every year and are able to get about a 6 mile loop. In the middle of summer bring the bug spray for the swarms of mosquitos. :) Id rate this trail a 4 in early spring and late fall when nothing else is open. Middle of summer its a 2-3. More people in the summer walking dogs etc.

Head north between the two northern most softball fields and you will catch a single track tht heads u the biggest hill around(1-200 ft climb). It vears to the East and turns to a double track fire road(sandy) in about a mile to a mile and a half you will take a right and down a fairly steep and at times sandy downhill. Take a quick right or left at the bottom and finish and play around in the bottom near the river. This hill provides as much of an aerobic workout as you could get anywhere dependent on how hard you push.

When I saw this trail listed I had to respond. I lived in Casper for over 20 years, and I don't want anyone to get the impression this is a mountain bike trail. This is a series of singletracks worn by kids on BMX bikes on a very flat plain beside the river.

If you want to mountain bike in Casper, try Capser or Muddy Mountain, though even there it is mainly just logging roads. If you want real mountain biking, go somewhere else in the state. Maybe near Laramie.
