Valley Falls - Trail, Farimont, Virginia

Valley Falls - Trail, Farimont, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

The trails have all skill types pending on how fast you want to take the turns and downhill parts. Starting at the parking area and riding up the road and almost out out of the park take a right and fallow the Red Fox trail for a great downhill run. Fallow the river and ride to the far parking lot, take the fireroad and fallow the trails back to the right and to the top of the hill, then take the Red Fox trail for a another downhill blast. There are many other trails so get a trail map, and enjoy. I always found the Rangers to be very helpful with trail information.

Valley Falls is a great place to spend a day. plenty of trails for everyone and a very scenic waterfall to hang out on or fish at.
Im starting my recommended route here because my description is too big to fit into the allotted space.
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Start at the lot then head up the paved road to the top for a warm-up. Head right down Red Fox trail (Red Fox - Awesome easy to medium skill downhill single track). Follow all the way down to gravel Deer Trail ( Deer Trail - mostly flat gravel road).

CONTINUED FROM ABOVE:
Follow Deer Trail to the paved road. Cross the road and head right up the unmarked trail about 10 yards past deer trail exit. (Unmarked trail - medium difficulty mostly single track. very rocky. meanders flat then down hill at end to shelter). Now you're back in the parking lot, head right and go up Rhododendron Trail (Rhododendron trail - this is my favorite part! slow and steady 3.5 mi climb to the top up very rocky and rooty foot paths and water ways. can get very technical but is a great workout! also, Rhododendron trail is a lot of fun to come down from the other direction too). Head left at the top of Rhododendron onto Dogwood trail (Dogwood trail - easy flat 4x4 road). Follow Dogwood trail to paved road. Head right up paved road back into park and take a right onto Wild Turkey trail ( Wild Turkey trail - grueling climb to top from road, then very fast and fun downhill). Follow Wild Turkey trail to the fork in the road then make a left onto rocky trail.

great trail system for begginer to intermediate riders into downhill and more intense cross country

Customer Service

if you want a good "beginner" ride take red fox but go left when you see the sign that says to road. Also for a good downhill run or a hard core XC run take wild turkey trail (behind rangers house at park entrance) and then take rocky trail to the bottom. wild turkey has a very long steep climb at trail head for about a mile but practically all down hill from there. go left at bottom of rocky to get to the parking lot and falls. I would recomend having someone who doesnt ride go along to take a car to the bottom because most trails start on top at gate and trust me you dont want to climb out! take a look at the falls also some of the boulders are legal to drop!

Awsome riding on a more serious level. At least it doesn't put me to sleep like some of those rail trails.

Pretty nice trail. a mix of technical singletrack (especially Red Fox Trail), gutwrenching up-hill climbs, and truly awesome downhill! This is not an extremely large area of trails(i.e. Blackwater or Slatyfork, but trust me, this trail is worth your while.

Valley Falls has some awesome singletrack. Great downhills. One advantage is not a lot of traffic when you are there hardly see anyone.

valley falls need more and longer trails. its good for riders with little endurance who ride one lap, but it lacks the distance and variety to prevent boredom. to ride any distance you have to ride the same trails over and over and over and over...(got the idea?) i can't believe that this trail system has the high ratings that its been given (injustice).

Customer Service

none in particular

I raced there earlier this year. The course was an 8 mile lap, we did three. Lots of fun, smooth, fast, singletrack.
