A-town Rock Island Trail - Trail, Amarillo, Texas

DESCRIPTION

Some riders have a prejudice toward man-made stunts and the deranged obstacle course that is the Rock Island trail, but if you don't like it, it's likely that you just can't handle it. It starts downtown and heads to the medical center and if you aren't sure of your skill level, you should start at the end with the hospitals. You've been warned. Don't be fooled by the lenght of the trail. Expect to see a lot of walking along this trail. Numerous bail-out options for the too weak to do the whole trail. Don't be put off by the locals only attitiude at the area shops and Amarillo riders who want this rad gem all to themselves. When you are ready to huck your meat into the sick, it's worth it to find this trail and bring some big huevos.

This is a paved Rail Trail.

Totally flat and you'll spend more time dodging kids on skateboards and housewives pushing strollers than you will anything else.

Customer Service

Doesn't matter. Start at either end. Parking seems safer on the west side.

The route is easy to find, just look for the rock island sign on Coulter north just pasy I-40. Arrived late so I didn't get to do all of the trail. Easy to find your way. Trail runs thru town so there are stores to stop at to recharge on the way.

Customer Service

Rode from west to east

The trail can lure you in until your not sure if you belong here. Popular at night with the true riding junkies. Suspension, suspension, suspension is all I see here. Faster to ride west to east, but the tougher stuff will be at the end this way. Max concentration is required, so drink more than a few Red Bulls and some Mountain Dews first. The danger of this trail has not been over rated and it has had a little negitive local press. This trail has no let up so be on top of your game and bulk up with all that armour. One word summary-EXTREME

Customer Service

Start at the 5th street trailhead by the underpass and do the badass stuff 1st, like glass-breaker, shopping cart's death ride, and sleep zone, drink some more Mountain Dew, head by the pit of grease, to the Western zig-zag, thru the scary fast section, to the back of nothing area (also called the I-40 zone), and try to finnish in one intact piece.
