Fast and flat, boring field sections. These trails could be awesome if they had taken advantage of the woods a lot more. Riding through a bunch of fields and fire roads is not my idea of "mountain" biking. Still, it does offer some fun singletrack sections and non-technical challenges. Customer Service Clockwise; start is up the hill behind visitor center Similar Products Used: Wolf river trails are better; start is across Walnut grove near wolf river bridge |

I rode this trail this last weekend when I visited the Memphis area and was a little disappointed. I think the biggest issue I had was the marking of the trail. There are a lot of little paths and its unclear as to where the main trail lies. The trail is marked as 6 miles but I ended up doing 5.4. I am a beginner and the trail was nothing difficult at all. There were dogs and runners sharing some of the sections so I had to play nice with some of the other traffic. If I am in the area again I think I'll try to find another trail or maybe find someone more familiar with this one. |

It's not overly technical. Some people see that as a positive, some see it as a negative, but it comes down to personal preference. Once you figure out all of the best lines you can make your way through the woods pretty quickly. If you like going fast, you'll like this trail. Dogs and walkers are an unknown variable every time you ride - but most seem to understand that they need to get out of the way of bikers. There are a few narrow sections where if you meet someone coming the other direction (trail officially goes clockwise) there really is nowhere to go.

Horrible trail. Very poorly marked and heavily rutted throughout. Don't waste your time. Customer Service Was lost most of the time so can't recommend a route. |

This was a really fun ride. Not too technical, no steep climbs, no big down hills just a good fun ride. There are a lot of open single track sections where you are riding over what seems to be old pasture area and some nice little sections in the wooded areas. There are some sections that you can get some good speed on, I registered 36 mph on my computer. The trails are pretty well marked and are in good shape, nice and hard packed, not too many muddy spots (considering the recent rain) or big ruts from horses. I did come across a few hikers and dogs on the trails and one horse so keep an eye out for those, there a few blind spots where you can be moving pretty good and not see someone coming. This would be a great place to take a beginner or a group of buddies out for a couple of loops. You can knock this one out in well under an hour if you are in decent shape, allow a little more time for the first timers. There is also a bike wash station which is excellent...and rare. I really enjoyed this one, LIVESTRONG!! Customer Service Park at rangers station and head up the paved road, trail begins on your right after about .37 mi. Similar Products Used: As you come into Shelby Farms you will see a "kite flying area" which is designated....yes, for kites! Anyway, there is an access road along that area, follow it across the Hwy. and you will find another set of trails. I have seen them labled as the "White trails" There are three sections: White, Yellow and Blue. From what I was told by the locals you can ride the White and Blue, Yellow is reserved for hikers. It is nice 10 mi. or so single track, no real elevation, it is primarily a rolling single track but allows you to gain some speed. There are quite a few roots and tech. crossings, 2-3 drops that are probably 15-20 ft down and back up, a couple of bridges and a few short steep climbs. Having only been in Memphis for a few weeks it was a new and fun place to ride. I can best describe it as being right in the middle of Stanky Creek and the Tour De Wolf, it has the best mixture of both tracks, plus it is all wooded as opposed to the TDW. Don't be afraid to give this one a shot, you might be surprised, it is a nice change of pace. LIVESTRONG! |

The Tour de Wolfe is a pretty good cardio trail, but don't expect much in the way of technical difficulty. It's all about speed, climbing and you agility in dodging dumbfounded dogs in the middle of the trail. If you want to head out consistently and its close by, its a great trail to try to improve your quickest times on. Unfortunately, it seems like we're going to be losing this trail at some point, either officially due to complaining hikers or unofficially because they just clog the trail. It's clearly marked as a "bike trail" but everyone walks on it with an average of TWO dogs off their leashes. Be careful coming around corners because the dogs tend to stare at you in the middle of the trail like a dear in the headlights. I've taken to awarding myself "handicaps" of 30 seconds for each dog I encounter. Customer Service Just follow the basic route. Taking the canyon is still a possibility (and there's even less traffic). Similar Products Used: Stanky Creek is the best trail in the Memphis area. Sad that I rode a blue (intermediate) trail at Whistler (X-country, not downhill) that was 4X more difficult than Stanky (Cut yer Bars). |

The trail is under an obvious MAJOR Re-Routing and Reclamation Project. Please follow new trail cuts and avoid any other cuts that are all closed. Without knowing it and at the old speeds, it can get you hurt by running into barbed wire from a fence relocation or trail closing tactics (sorry). The NEW TRAIL CUTS add to the difficulty, is totally ridable and adds about a mile more to the course. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SEEN REMOVING BARRIERS and ENTERING CLOSED AREAS this is unsafe and can risk injury. PLEASE USE THE NEW TRAIL... 3 Major Projects Remain... Click the email/my name above to get news on work days to help out. Customer Service The course goes clock wise. "The Swamp" and uphill are CLOSED with the new trail going left up, around and across Beaver Lake Dam. Also, as you enter AREA 12 'dog off leash area' out by the apartments, the new course goes to the right and across the dam so as to avoid the uphill and downhill 'grand canyon' and the designated dogs off leash area.Enter Willow Pond area go left into an advanced area or right for novice riders. At top of hill, go right to avoid the fence line closure. Follow the cuts and enjoy the new course. Comming out of the woods, avoid the right turn till its regrown it is a "thorn in the tire" area. New signs are in the works. Similar Products Used: Wolf River Trail System on the Farms also. |
