Ponca State Park is a hidden gem for trail riders with multiple short tracks through the Loess Hills and along the Missouri River.

Ponca State Park, in my opinion, has some of the best singletrack in Nebraska. The trails are well maintained, fast and challenging. Some of the sections can get pretty technical. There is an epic overlook of the tri-state area which shouldn't be missed. Rarely do you encounter other bikers, hikers or horses.

I rode the Blood Run and Oak trails only; both at least twice. Hilly stuff you got out there in bluffs country. I rode Ponca in the morning and Stone St. Park in the afternoon and man did I get a workout. Ponca has wonderful views of the Missouri River and I thank you other reviewers for posting here else I woulda missed a day of fun.

Misses: Too many trails crossing the paved Park roads. I would imagine that riding in the summertime with all the sight-seers driving around would be a mistake.

Customer Service

Nothing horribly scary on Blood Run or Oak, but boaf are very worthy trails that will dump you if you stray. I trailheaded by the Archery Range area which worked out great.

For you Archers, the range there is great...lots of 2-D targets at varying ranges/altitudes to hone your skills, as well as a broadhead area.

I wasn't that impressed. If you link up all the trails and count the miles on the park road then you may get 18 miles. There are some nice downhill sections and views of the river. Overall....if it's all you have, then it's pretty good. If your wanting to drive an hour or two... look for something els.

A really nice trail system. I am skeptical about the trail distances as listed on the park maps (seems shorter to me) but maybe I am having too much fun to gauge accurately. If you live in and around Sioux Falls, SD this would be your closest "good" off road ride (1 to 1.5 hour drive) which is a very sad fact. Nicely laid out trails which provide challenging climbs and rewarding decents. Non-technical but fun. Seemingly few people use these trails. No hint of horse droppings or the trail destruction they cause.

Customer Service

Combining the Old Oak and Bloodroot loops in varying ways makes for some really nice riding. Corps of Discovery is not a great bike trail (rock steps which would be rideable if you are the type who enjoys risking injury on man-made obstacles) Buffalo run is nice and is the longest continuous trail in the park

The park is on the river and has showers, cabins to rent, and a nerby town to get the essentials. The nearest bike shop (Sioux City) is about 1/2 hour away. Beautiful place to camp and unwind. Tri state overlook and swimming pool really top this place off. This is probably the most challenging riding this state has to offer, short of going WAY west. E-mail me for the skinny on the rest.

Customer Service

Try warming up on the small, rolling single tracks. There are a lot! I still have yet to feel really comfortable getting around in the forrest but who said comfortable was any fun? Then try the technical trails. These are short but FAST. 1/2 mile at best.

This park was a 2 hour drive for me (from the Omaha area). Although it was nice to get out to a new area, I felt the trails were much the same as those at Platte river or Indian Cave. It is a real pretty park, and the trails are very well maintained and nice to ride. I figure the trail I rode was a good intermediate.
