The Cowboy Trail is a great recreational trail. I rode from the Niobrara Lodge in Valentine, NE east about 15 miles on the trail. The scenery is wonderful and crossing the bridge over the Niobrara itself was worth the trip. If you can, ride the trail at sunset...it's awesome.

Customer Service

The trail runs from Valentine, NE to Norfolk, NE so anywhere in between...the bridge is just outside of Valentine.

We've ridden from a couple miles east of Ainsworth to Long Pine and back, for a 20-mile trip. We've also ridden from Valentine (the western beginning of the trail) to 10 miles east and back (we did this last year and this year). Well-maintained. It's a rail trail, so it goes along highway 20 in many places. Beautiful Nebraska Sandhills scenery. Take a lot of water (we each take two 20 ounce and two 32 ounce bottles for 20 mile rides) as there really is no shade and towns are about 10 miles apart, most with limited services. We like this trail. We have rarely seen people riding this trail so it's very peaceful.

Crushed limestone trail, which due to the fact it used to be a railroad bed, is rather flat....ok - real flat. Best part of the trail is the sandhill scenery and the small Nebraska towns which are spaced 10 miles or less apart.
I pulled a BOB trailer and camped along the way. Started in Norfolk and turned around in Ainsworth. 300 miles total.
The Nebraska Game and Parks department keeps it in pristine condition.
This trail is not for diehard crosscountry riders looking to abuse themselves and their machines but is worth doing at least once for the experience.

This is a limestone trail that has a few miles of concrete at the begining. There is some nice scenery but it is for casual riding more akin to a bike path. It is worth the time for a nice ride but not for anyone looking for single track.

ON Highway 81, on south edge of Norfolk got to TaHaZouka Park and find trail head on extreme southside along the river. There are signs.
