Wagon Train - Trail, Hickman, Nebraska

Wagon Train - Trail, Hickman, Nebraska

DESCRIPTION

The trailhead begins at the beach parking lot and goes to the north. It is all tight singletrack through Cedar Trees and Nebraska Prairie. It is a fast course that has some elevation change, but is not overly technical. It is a great training course that can be ridden and timed for improvements. There are trails that run over along the east side of the park next to 110th Street and go to the south by the camp grounds as well. The trails are not marked, but can be seen when driving through the park. It 10 minutes from Lincoln and one can ride the whole course in less than one hour. It is well designed with a great flow and should be enjoyed by riders of all experience levels.

Did this trail with my wife, which was our first trail ride as we just started riding. We absolutely loved it, but again, we don't have anything to compare it to. There are dozens of different trails you can choose and each one has a slightly different degree of difficulty. Most of the trails are single-track and pretty narrow, so watch the tight curves!

As another reader mentioned, be careful of the direction your going and always be prepared to meet another rider head on! There isn't much visibility past the corners, so definitely wear your protective gear.

I liked the trail, I am new to single track and have to say I prefer less mileage of more technical riding versus a 20 mile ride. As I do not have much to compare this to I can only say I liked.

Be careful with other riders, ensure you are going the right way. My Bad and I have the battle wounds to prove it.

After having an "accident" (head on & we both end up flying) I learned about riding the "unwritten" way. RIGHT, STAY RIGHT.

North side of beach parking lot. Start right and stay right.

Fun and fast singletrack! I live close to Wagon Train, so I ride the trails a few days a week. Not overly technical, but when you get your speed up, it becomes a lot of fun. There is not a lot of elevation, but enough to get your legs pumping good. It is a great cardio workout with good speed. At 4.5 miles on the north loop in 17 minutes, your lungs are on fire.

Start at the beach area and go north. It is tight singletrack that flows well. There are a number of ways to get around the north loup and all the ways have different challenges to them. There is a few technical areas, but all experience levels can have a great ride. The east loop starts off the gravel road in the park by the outhouse on the north end of tent camping area and will run along 110th Street. It will shoot out on another gravel road in the park and the south loup trail head starts at the camper dump area. This trail runs south with what starts out a horse trail. The trails on the south are mostly flat with tights corners through the cedar trees. All trails total about 9 miles.
