Bogue Chito State Park - Trail, Franklinton, Louisiana

Bogue Chito State Park - Trail, Franklinton, Louisiana

DESCRIPTION

Much of the trail is covered in limestone and relatively smooth. The Gorge Run Trail will test your endurance for sure. Overall, great place to introduce newby to the sport.

Very nice park that has some nice outlooks of the Bogue Chitto River and fun to go see the Gorge area. The trail is not very technical at all, but a few climbs will challenge a seasoned rider's stamina.

There is a $2 park fee to go ride.

Customer Service

The climbs are more challenging counterclockwise. I bypass the trail around the Discover Nature trail and cut to the water park/canoe launch area because the sand is so thick that you end up pushing rather than riding. This route ends up being around 5.2 miles.

This is a brand new park that just opened up. Great camping facilities. Trails are covered with limestone for the most part, though new section around the beach area is loose sand and should be avoided. The main loop going up to Gorge Run Trail was a challenging climb. I'd say impossible to climb on one slope where we had to bail and walk the bikes up. After that, we were treated with interesting views along the rim of the gorge and some fun ups and downs before descending back to the lower area. Nothing technical about the runs at all; some very challenging on your stamina, though. All in all, a good place to introduce a newby to the sport.

We went counter-clockwise around the main loop. Don't know if going clockwise would make it any better, but plan to try it that way when I go next time.
