Lawrence river trails - Trail, Lawrence, Kansas

DESCRIPTION

Aproxamately 8 mile loop, with a number of cutbacks to shorten the loop if wanted. Lots of whoop di dos, lots of technical log jams, very fast trail, sandy over most of it.

Even though it’s an hour drive each way for me, I still try to ride the LRT at least once a month. I first rode it in 1994 and it’s just as fun today. A one-way trail with runners going the opposing direction, this trail is just a fast, sandy roller-coaster ride. Other than a few steep up-and-downs and a couple easy rocky sections there really aren’t any technical features, and it’s ideal for giving first timers a taste of dirt. There is also a newer offshoot trail around the 5 or 6-mile marker that’s a little tighter with some deep sand that adds another 2.5 miles or so to the loop, but riding it is completely optional. Singlespeeds and CX bikes work great here. Your all-mountain rig will probably be massive overkill.

The only negative thing I can say about the LRT is that on nice weekends it can get pretty crowded, so you really have to keep an eye out for oncoming joggers and riders who stop in the middle of the trail.

From the parking lot, just enter the trails to the left, hit the loop and repeat as necessary. You can’t get lost.

If you’re in Lawrence and want something more technical, hit up Clinton Lake for sure. In the KC area, Shawnee Mission Park, Wyandotte County Lake, Smithville Lake, Stocksdale and Landahl are all worth a spin.

8 mile roller coaster ride. Very fast. Sand pits between mile 5 and 6 aren't too fun but I think you can bypass them. Really a blast.

Customer Service

Turn east just north of the river and go to 8th street and turn south.

Nice well marked trail. Its just one big single loop. Very fast very little climbing or descending. Trail is silty and sandy. Had a blast! The only thing difficult about this trail is we were going so fast that we were sliding out through the turns.

If you are ever in the Lawrence area, this is a fun trail to hit up for a fun 8 mile ride. The main attraction for this trail is the roller coaster whoop-de-doos on the first 4 miles of the loop and the last 4 miles back rides along the Kansas River and for the most part, it is fast and flowy.

There are a couple of small logpiles on the trail just for some technical fun and there is a couple of places on the trail you can catch some small air...

Overall, a very fun ride!

Not at all technical. Lots of whoop di doos to keep it interesting. A few ramps in the beginning and a cool semi drop right after the ramps. It really gives you a good work out if you ride the loop a few times.

Sweet, fast stuff. Not really technical, but was great for a cool down ride after hitting Perry Lake.

This trail is like a rollercoaster on flat ground, and can almost make me dizzy if ridden fast enough. It's a great beginner mountain bike trail as my wife can attest. She loves to ride it. For myself it is really fast. I've ridden from parking lot back to parking lot in just over 34 minutes with an average of over 14 mph on the 8.5 miles of singletrack so it can be really fast. Also I have heard it is possible to ride the whole thing without using any brakes. I've tried it once, but did have to touch the brakes at two spots, otherwise no brakes needed because there is really no elevation change. This trail is kept up really well with someone running a mower through it to keep the weeds down. For someone passing through this area of Kansas I would recommend this trail as worth a ride for its fast, flowy trail. It's easy for beginners but fun for experienced riders too.

Please follow the arrows, it's disconcerting to find either hikers or cyclists traveling the wrong direction.

What that last guy said exactly... flat and fast but superbly designed with nice banks and no roots, so you can really carry your speed into the turns. Some really fun jumps in the first mile. A real break from most of the really rocky technical trails that most of this area consists of. If you want to haul ass and have the trees fly by, this is the trail for you. Enjoy.

Fast rolling trail. Ridden once a week when I lived in Lawrence. Sandy parts dry fast but some areas stay muddy for a while. Nothing difficult for intermediate to avdanced ridders, but good trail for new riders. A lot of fun if you like to ride fast with out many climbs or downhill sections.

nice fun,non-technical bombing trail, hard packed sand along river drains great after rain, excellent maintenance from local club, lots of fun whoop-te-doos and dips and corners, loop takes about 45 minute. Some logs to climb over, gets lots of traffic. In the trees most of the time, lots of low branches.

Customer Service

just one loop to take
