Lehigh Portland Trails - Trail, Iola, Kansas

DESCRIPTION

The Lehigh Portland Trails are built on the site of a former cement plant and quarry, along the banks of Elm Creek in Iola, Kansas. The trails feature both rail-trail-style gravel-surfaced trails and natural-surface trails for mountain biking, trail running, and nature hikes. Ride, run, hike, picnic, or just sit and take in the beauty of 100+ acres of rugged woodlands, lively prairie, and scenic views of a lovely spring-fed quarry lake. The Lehigh Portland Trails feature over 2 miles of rail-trail-style gravel-surfaced trails and over 5 miles of natural-surface singletrack trails.

The singletrack trails are beginner-friendly, yet with some surprisingly technical sections mixed in, including rocks, roots, tight-and-twisty, and short punchy climbs, all through a diverse natural environment of mature hardwoods, riparian woodlands, aromatic cedars, open prairie, and rugged 30-foot limestone bluff. It's a mix unlike anything else in Kansas.
