Fort Leavenworth Trail - Trail, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Fort Leavenworth Trail - Trail, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

DESCRIPTION

Trail starts just inside the west gate of the reservation. It is primarily singletrack, with a combination of rocks and roots in some sections. 2-3 fairly good climbs and a couple of rocky semi-technical descents. Some log obstacles to negotiate. Be aware this is a multi-use area and there are other users in the area. Web address provided has ride schedule.

I'm sorry to say that while I finally found what is left of this trail it is essentially un-rideable. Many full trees are down across the "trail" and even the best parts are essentially a giant fly trap for mountain bikers. I enjoy a good adventure ride but spent more time breaking brush off my bike than on. Too bad.

The trail is being cleaned up now (Sept 2013). It can be ridden right now but is slightly overgrown on some sections. Downed trees and grass is being cleared to open the outer loop as well as some inner cuts. About 1/3 is single track, the remainder is old double track. This trail is "multi-use" and is intended for hikers, horses, and bikes. Not likely to run across anyone, but be polite regardless. Should have it mostly open by Thanksgiving. About 9 miles are open now. Open meaning - can be ridden without difficulty or having to get off and hike around overgrown areas.

Easiest Trailhead - Park @ Brunner Range on Sheridan Drive. Go south on Sheridan Drive about 150 meters, trailhead on left side. I generally follow a counterclockwise loop and do not cross Sheridan Drive. All routes will be plotted in Strava and Garmin Connect by the end of October.

Easier to get to than WYCO for those of us in Leavenworth. Not as many options as WYCO or Smithville Lake, but I would rather spend the time I save from the drive on the bike. Simply another option for NW KC.

The trail, as described on the previous posts, no longer exists. I moved here this winter and was excited at the write ups, but when I went looking for the trails I found that they'd been overgrown, cut off by force protection fences (Jesse James Canyon), and blocked by fallen trees. Most of the exploration I did was back by the Hunt Club and the Hunt club kennels.

Now this isn't to say that some concerted effort couldn't open the trails up again, but for now there isn't much there.

We have tried to locate this trail several times and can't seem to find it. I'd really love it if anyone who has been on it before would give some better directions on how to get there. My wife and I are looking for some decent mountain biking trials in or near Fort Leavenworth, KS. Thanks!

This is in addition to an earlier review. This trail gets very mucky after wet weather. I recommend giving it 24-48 hours after a rain or snow melt for it to dry out a little. Other than wet weather, it is still a great trail. Some new trails have been cleared that make for about a 2-3 hour loop ride--some of it with good downhill sections and technical sections.

Just in from Germany where we had some awesome trails, but this one reminds me of home. Good, fast single track with enought hills to keep you in fighting shape! Apx. 12 miles of track depending on what sections you take.

This is a well maintained singletrack trail. It is technical at some points but is great for beginners as well. One main trail offers a good ride but the offshoots and alternate paths are fun too.

Great trail. Almost entirely single-track with some fire road. Challenging uphills and fast downhills. Fit for all skill levels and enough technical spots for the more advanced. Good times to be had a night as well.

Customer Service

One main route and working on adding others. Still working on marking the trail so it would be best for newby's to ride with the group rides- 3 x weekly (T-Th-Sun).

A great trail with a little bit of everything. The trail provides a great workout (can be as hard or easy as you like). The terrain is varied. Rocky climbs and descents and plenty of single track. This trail is rideable for any skill level, but intermediate and above riders would enjoy it the best.

Customer Service

Only one real route, with some short trails that loop out and return to the main trail.
