Try this trail for yourself, if you are a climber you will love it .If you like to get a good workout out of a 11 mile ride, this is for you. But if you are a new rider be very carefull there are some really tricky spots on this and make sure your brakes work well.

Customer Service

Just stay on the trail and follow the signs . Once you finish the first half you will come out at a parking area. Here you need to take the road left(East) and cross the bridge, the return loop entrance is on the left hand side of the road about 100 yards past the bridge. This trail CAN be riden backwards and is slightly easier backwards as well. For more information contact C.I.M.B.A at [email protected]

It's a great aerobic workout. Take an extra lung and tube(s). You are guaranteed to get at least one flat per ride. I'm not kidding. If someone (like myself, i guess) would do more maintenance as far as raking leaves and brush off the trail then the likelyhood of flats would go way down.

Customer Service

Ride it backwards because there is less climbing for us that desire to go downhill!

There aren't any. Nothing but cornfields as far as you can see. Over all rating is only a 3. This is after having rode in the Southeast (North Carolina and Georgia) as well as Colorado, Utah and California. Hey, it's Illinois. Where are our mountains for mountain biking?

Evidently over the weekend (12-5,6)there was a confict of some sort at these trails resulting in attention being drawn to the conservation Police. I personally was approached on Sunday by an officer and was told not to ride the trails and that the trails were "For hiking only". This is not the way it has been in the past and the posted signs simply read , "No gasoline vehicles". By all rights bicycles obviously are not gasoline vehicles, but anyway this is what I was told. I am going to put together a petition along with a presentation of facts for access rights to this area. But please, during this process I am asking that you do not ride this trail. Further conflict with with the conservation rangers will only make it harder to get the proper access rights that we rightfully deserve. If you would like to volunteer any assistance to us >>(CIMBA), Please feel free to Email me and I will get in contact with you and send you a petition form to gather support. I have been involved in this sort of process before and I stongly believe that if we do it right we will have free access here next year. For those of you that have ridden this in the past, I know this really SUCKS but these people have to be made aware of what we are about. And they just will not tolerate violation of this policy that they are now taking. And there are fines of $75 if they catch you . IF YOU WANT TO HELP, EMAIL ME AT .. ..... [email protected]

No, nothing else comes close to the riding here anywhere within 50 miles of here. At least not anywhere that understands about Mountain Biking and supports it by legalized trail access.

This is just an update. From the last I heard (April 2000), there are "No Bike" signs appearing at North Fork. As of right now, you should probably skip riding this area until further notice. This is one area that we will work to get opened up again for mountain bikes. But, right now we are busy working on some trails with the Army Corps for the Lake Shelbyville area. Look for new trails, maps, bike cam footage from Lake Tahoe, etc. in the near future on our new website.

Well, all of us groups in IL. have got together and formed a State wide IMBA group called the IMBC (IL. Mountain Bicycle Coalition) We are working closely with the IL. Department of Natural Resources (INDR) to get more access to the lands they oversee. We have a good reputation already with all of the great work that has been done at other IDNR areas in the state. Here at North Fork is our first and number one priority for IMBC and with a cooperative effort we will have a very good chance to get this place open fully legal soon. I personally believe with the way IDNR works that it will be within a year or so and we might get in there. The problem is that the site superintendant at this area (Clinton Lake) doesn't think we need this trail for bikes. We think it is needed badly, we don't have very many really hard trails in Central IL and this one is a great one! There is also upcoming help for from a new coalition of people in this County (Dewitt) that are wanting to build trails in the county, we look forward to their support. Our web site will be up the week of March 10th, 2003 so you can check out information on more Central IL. trails @ cimba.org

Customer Service

Still none. Unless you are hiking. We are getting closer to getting this re-opened to bikes. If we do we will be looking for local help to do some re-routes of the trail to cure some erosion problems from poor design of the hiking trail. This will make the loop even longer and the climbs longer too!

Come on in to Decatur and ride at Garman Park for a relatively easy ride. We are working to get more land access in Decatur to build in the area of 20-25 miles of trail for the Decatur area. Check out the web site for more on that too......cimba.org. Otherwise check out Camp Camfield in Sullivan, Comlara park outside Bloomington, or head to Peoria, Kickapoo State Park, or Springfield.
