Combo Trail (Lums Pond State Park) - Trail, Bear, Delaware

Combo Trail (Lums Pond State Park) - Trail, Bear, Delaware

DESCRIPTION

Open and under tree canopy single track. This is a combination trail for hikers, horses and bikes. I live close by and use this area when I just want to get out and stretch my legs. If you are a camper you can camp there and ride. Never more than a hiker or fisherman around. Not very challenging, but offers an alternative to trespassing! Clear, clean, safe trails for the beginner to start trail riding

Ok so hears the skinny.
These trails are a blast! Sure there are no climbs or hairy descents ,
But for shear speed and fun flowing single track then it's worth a visit.
Outer double track is about 8 1/2 miles as of this posting.
The sweet inner loop of connecting single track is twisty flowing fast fun!
This places begs for flat out speed.
Park at the Buck Jersey road lot and go clockwise around the pond.

Thanks to local bike people like the members of the Delaware Trailspinners and the Lum's Pond staff, this is a fun loop for beginners and kids. Bill Bachelor has been instrumental in working on the trails and making it exciting. There are some small tricky sections, but it relatively easy for most poeple.

Park at the Nature Center, ride the road for 200 yards North back towards the gate and dive left onto the trail, follow the Yellow blazes all the way around the pond. It is a 6.4 mile loop, but there are some small ways to sprad it out to 10 miles.

White Clay Creek and Middle Run are by far more technical and challenging, , but don't discount Lum's, it is a fun ride afterwork or if you are crunched for time.

I give Lum's a 3 only becuase it doesn't have the climbing based on geography, nothing against the way it is laid out..

Pretty boring, the multi-use trail is torn up by horses. No hills or anything. If you want more technical stuff, the hiking trail is more interesting...

Customer Service

It's a loop around the pond

A very basic, easy to ride 11+ miles, no challenges really, some rootage and mildly twisty areas but nothing major...do the loop a few times in a row and you might break a sweat. Well maintained and clean though.

Customer Service

Start at nature center and follow path across bridge and keep on going...

Because this trail goes around a pond, it is usually muddy. (There are little water run-offs everywhere feeding the pond.) Also, because of the run off, there are a lot of exposed roots; these can be pretty bumpy. These bumps are the only thing that makes this trail a "mountain bike" trail, otherwise you could pretty much push a baby stroller on it! Easy ride for beginners.

This isn't as bad a place to ride as some of the reviews indicate. It's excellent for beginners to get a feel for a new bike. You also don't need to drop big bucks on a bike to ride here. Suspension of any kind really isn't necessary. There's pretty much just one 10 mile loop so it's damn near impossible to get lost. I would not go out of my way to ride here but if you're local it beats riding on the street. It's obvious once you've ridden here that if you're looking to jump over logs and ride hills this is defintely not where you want to be. You'll definitely be bored. But if your just looking for a quick off road workout it's not bad. There is alot of mud but if you're afraid to get dirty then you should be riding a street bike.
