Tyler Mill - Trail, Wallingford, Connecticut

Tyler Mill - Trail, Wallingford, Connecticut

DESCRIPTION

4 distinct loops from very easy to very scary. Some are very serpentine and slow, others are fast. Some nice climbs and descents. Loop that starts to left of parking lot has some serious drop-offs on either side of trail; ride with caution.

Strength:

Trails are poorly maintained and a woman in a red truck harasses people and hates mountain bikers.

Weakness:

Place has fallen into disrepair since 2011. The wallingford conservation commission has done a poor job keeping up with maintenance and refuses help from local residents and Nemba.

As i read these reviews many of them are very wrong and i can see that many of you have only ridden here once or twice. its quite a simple set of trails, yes there are more trails than you can count, but you should never get lost. its very simple theres 3 main fireroads in the park and every trail leads to them. if you take a left off the fireroad simple take a right when you come back to it and you will end up back at the parking lot. these are some of the best trails in the state and a lot of people work very hard to keep this place open. there are many drops along the trails but you dont have to worry if you cant do them there are cut offs to go around. i highly recommend this place to anyone there are trails of every ability.

Customer Service

One of the biggest problems this place has is that people do not enter in the right spot. if your parking by the community gardens and crossing the fields to enter the trails you are the reason they are trying to shut this place down. the landowner of the field to enter from the soccer fields does not want people crossing there. instead (when coming from I91) pass the community gardens and take the first road on the right(im not sure of the name) but its the only road there you cant miss it. once on that road you want to take the first road on the right (tyler mill rd) it will cross a little bridge and head into the woods. the road will turn to gravel but go all the way to the end and there are some parking spots directly in the center of the trails. this is where you should be parking and entering the trails from.

See the comments above on the trail and the good features.

Customer Service

The serpentive trail is great. From the parking lot, you go through a field, up a good climb, out on to a gravel road. You then plunge back into the woods for a trail that winds around deep depressions filled with water and come back out on the gravel road. The next part of the trail starts after crossing a bridge with a short but technical climb on the left. From there, the trail gives you everything from slow turns, logs, screaming descents, short but technical climbs, and you are still close to civilization. It is a great place to train.

I love this trail, the loop is about 10 miles. There are fast fire roads, Technical Single track, great climbing and great downhills. This course has it all. There are 2 great drop-offs in a row. This trail is the bomb.

Customer Service

Same as the race course for those of you who know it.

A lot of variety from singletrack to fire roads. Great climbs and descents. Some REALLY hairy trails that'll definetely get you off your bike.

Customer Service

Go past the soccer fields and take your first right afterwards. Then again, take your first right and go down a long narrow, bumpy road. You'll come to a closed off bridge and a little parking lot. Leave your car there and ride!!! Go over the bridge and after you pass it you'll see a trail going up a hill on your left. Just follow it. AWESOME SINGLE-TRACK!

Best trails are now on south side of Tyler Mill Rd (gravel road that splits the area). Main loop on north side has been bull-dozed/logged. Rode there yesterday-
serpentine loop is as good as ever, race loop is a maze of downed trees. I'd have to down-rate it to four tires.

Customer Service

The "race loop", (a red-blazed and white-blazed trail, part of which runs adjacent to Woodmont Ave (Rt 150),
has been bull-dozed and logged. Most of the route is un-ridable or not worth riding. Thanks to Town of Wallingford.

not a great beginner trail, but it is doable by most anyone (with some walking). love the stream crossing on a hot day.

Customer Service

from the far end of the parking lot, hook left past the barriers, then up the clear trail thru the field to the woods. couple good climbs and descents, poop out on the gravel road, left almost to the bottom and jump right onto the single track trail. there will be a left fork dropping down (couple good tree ledges to drop down), while the "big" trail goes slightly right and level. drop left, and let your "nose" lead you to the river. cross the bridge, up the gravel to a trail on the right. enjoy the twists and drops.
