Troy Built - Trail, Mack, Colorado

Troy Built - Trail, Mack, Colorado

DESCRIPTION

This trail was scouted, laid out, and built by Troy Schneer of the BLM. It's all singletrack and it's all fun. There is a brief slickrock section, challenging negotiations, rocks, sand, hardpack, switchbacks, climbs, descents, sideslopes, etc., etc. It's one of the trails that is part of the Kokopelli. If you are uncomfortable with your step-in (clipless) pedals this trail might not be for you.

One of the lesser-ridden trails at Kokopelli. It has a great downhill section coming off of Lion's Loop, awesome ride along the hillside above Salt Creek. Recommended if you're looking at riding without seeing anyone else on the trail.

Customer Service

Combine with Lion's Loop (starting at the Mack Ridge/Moore Fun intersection) and finish off coming back on Mack Ridge.

Mary's Loop to Lion's Loop to Troy Built and fire road back.

This trail sucks. Don't ride it. I mean, it's okay, but there are much better options in the area. The biggest problem is the hills: they're just too steep to be any fun, and the stuff in between just isn't worth it.

Customer Service

Clockwise. If you climb the fire road from I-70, it's a ball-buster. If you want training and to get your HR up regardless of trail charm, go for it. The descent from Lion's Loop near the Mack Ridge intersection is fun enough, but why lose that much elevation that fast when you could make it longer with some whoops and cross more terrain? Eh.

CCW: Descending the fire road would be an insult after the climb to get there. Climbing the singletrack to get to Mack Ridge would be be too steep and technical to be any fun at all. Three guys we saw doing it were suffering like stuck pigs.

We rode this trail clockwise, and that seemed like the best direction. This trail has great views, and the position on the side of the hill is amazing. There are several short difficult sections, but most of the trail is moderate. The riding along the side of the hill might make some riders uncomfortable, but if you are not one of those riders this trail should not be missed.

Fun, Fun and... FUN. Great singletrack and not as crowded as the other loops in the area (plus the singletrack is better and there is more of it).

Customer Service

Do it in a counterclockwise direction. Park along the dirt road that runs parallel to I-70 and climb up collarbone alley, then turn right onto Troy Built. Follow the loop all the way back around to your car. maps are avaliable at Over The Edge Sports in Fruita.

I may be from Iowa but I've ridden some kick ash trails from all over the fricken country Mr. Bigglesworth and this one is definitely in the top 5 of my all time favorites (Sunset Trail - Flagstaff, Portal - Moab, Holy Cross - GJ, Hemorrhoid - Mason City, IA). But anyway, it has pretty much everything you'd ever want in a trail. Don't go to Fruita / GJ without riding this trail.

Customer Service

I liked riding it clockwise, never rode it any other way so so suck your toe all the way to Mexico, when you're there cut your hair put it in your underwear.

This trail has it all. a very technical trail, but not enough to kill you. lots of killer spots with some pretty good exposure on your left; overall it was rolling, twisty technical rocky singletrack. my God, this trail was awesome!!!

Customer Service

Great loop! Started out with a pretty good climb, some steep and rocky and some smooth and just got better from there. About 1/2 way through it we sort of looked at each other and figured out that most people ride it the other way but we had a blast. For the most part not too technical. Handcuffs was killer just for the fact that we could see it from up above and just couldn't wait to get down there. Oh yeah, we saw 2 other riders over the 2+ hours we spent on the trail.

Customer Service

We rode it counterclockwise, Troy's, Lions, Steves, and ended with Mary's (I think).

Every ten minutes or so one of us would comment on how great the trails were and how much work must have been put into them. Great bike shop and locals (the following day we met a local in the parking lot at the Tabeguach trail head who basically acted as a guide for us for about 2 hours)

This was my favorite loop in four days of riding in Fruita. Mack Ridge was fun, but Troy Built had everything you could ask for in a singletrack trail. Great scenery, exposure, rolling climbs and descents. Saw only one other rider while we were on the trail!

Customer Service

Start at the Mack Exit parking lot. Ride clockwise Mack Ridge to Troy Built.
