This is one seriously fun very technical trail.

Its up there at altitude and the a basin maintenance roads are seriously steep so be aware - you should be pretty fit to try it. There's some very close exposure which comes right away.

Despite the high technical level of the entire downhill, nothing is unrideable which I'll really appreciate next time i go. Also no significant drops or jumps for which I would have given a technical 5.

The only con is that it isn't that long. I would have given 5 for aerobic if it had been longer. If you don't shuttle, it would be 5.

The details are well described by cross country rider.

Long climb to the top of A-Basin ski resort. ONce on top, drop your seat, and let it rip!! be careful on the first part of the descent, as it is a narrow singletrack along the ridge of the mountain. A fall to the right will send you tumbling down the backside of the mountain left of Montezuma bowl... Do not do that!!! After that, its an incredible ride down with beautiful views.

Customer Service

I Recommend this as a shuttle run only!!! climbing 6 miles of pavement up to A-basin is not how I want to spend an afternoon on my all mountain rig!!
Park in the upper lot of A-basin, the overflow lot. Cross the street near the road crew building and begin climbing up. Its obvious, get to the top of A-basin as if you are trying to reach montezuma bowl. ONce on top, go left and floow the singletrack down. You will end up at at Peru Creek near the town of Montezuma. I generally will park a car at keystone and ride the road downhill to keystone. When you pop out of the singletrack, go right on the dirt road and this will take you to the ride to go to keystone. (to the right).

Great trail first downhill section is airy, technical and a no-fall zone. After this long traverse of the cirque the track becomes awesome single track with some surprise airs and a few deeply rutted sections.

Climb up the basin access road (granny gear grind), at the top head left and look for singletrack. Then get ready for some exposed riding (200-300+ ft drop if you bite it) the first 1/2 to 1 mile. After that head down to Peru Creek Road on great single track.

Customer Service

If you shuttle its about 1750 ft climb from the Basin's parking lot, maybe 1000 ft more if you do the whole loop.

A totally awesome ride, not for the faint of heart. Climbing 1500 feet over 6 miles gets you to A-Basin. Climb another 1500 feet in just 2.5 miles (yeah it's real steep) and you're on top of the world, ready to blast off. Wave to the big white goats before you drop in on the first two switchbacks that will snap you out of your oxygen-starved stupor in a hurry. The first section of trail is traversing the outside of a huge open cirque that can get a little spooky--you can't afford to fall to the right. Past that section you get great singletrack that dips and swoops through some open tundra and then some trail-obscuring willows, then you're down to treeline. Great technical trail through dark forest with lots of roots and rocks and a few off-camber water crossings. The trail ends at Peru Creek Road and you're still about a seven-mile descent and another 1000 feet above Keystone so keep that big ring handy.

Customer Service

There's really only one. Ride the whole thing from Keystone.
