Its not real technical, but the challenge is the long climbs. The trail is similar to an M, which also means there are some sweet downhills. If you take the wildcat trail, you'll go about 12 miles total and eventually wind up on a nice beach - frisbee optional. Theres great scenery, but the trails can be crowded. Watch out for hikers and be especially careful around horses.

If you can handle weight and the climb, camp out at Wildcat Beach. It is only accesible by foot, horse or bike and usually few people. Nice in the fall. No water on trail.

Customer Service

Only one way to do this. Start at Five Brooks Stables parking lot off highway 1 a couple miles south of the Sir Francis Drake intersection. Head west. Climb back is harder than climb to beach.

For a good varied loop, take Olema Valley down to Dogtown, see how far you can make it up McCurdy before dismounting, walk the rest of the way up to Bolinas Ridge. From there head back north on the classic redwoods to open fields Marin ride with amazing views of Tomales Bay. Left on Sir Francis Drake to left on Hwy. One, then 15 min road ride/ cool off back to 5 Brooks.

Customer Service

Start @ 5Brooks, but don't take Stewart as other reviewers have suggested. Instead, head to the left at the first fork and start climbing the Olema Valley Trail. Gets you lungs burning, but nothing too techy unless it's been raining, in which case you shouldn't be on the trail anyway. After a long steep climb, the Olema Valley trail runs about 5 miles down to Dogtown, almost all real singletrack, some sketchy parts, a few creek crossings -- it's the real deal.

Do this during the week or be very nice to horse/hiker types.
