Buffner Trail - Trail, Poway, California

Buffner Trail - Trail, Poway, California

DESCRIPTION

Single Track, fire roads and some climbing. There are a few technical spots. I found this trail while out looking for a challenge. There are some spots that illegal ORV's have torn up pretty badly and construction is just beginning to nibble the edges. Views from the top are fantastic

I have no idea where Buffner comnes from unless it to honor the rider who died there years ago.

His name was Andy Ruffner, not Buffner, and his family/children erected a cairn on the steep uphill trail nearest Poway Road (Iola Way). Anyhow, Ruffner hill is steep and part of a challenging XC loop with over 500 feet of elevation gain in total. So, if you are into up and down and not much else, it is a great place to ride.

One can start in Sabre Springs or at Meadowbrook. There is only one real option for climbing out of Meadowbrook, and that is to find the northern most fireroad/trail as soon as possible next to a chain link fence going up the hill west. An overlooked trail (tough to find) can be found south of the cement pad on the south ridge, and goes SW, eventually drops into the ballfields by AM/PM, and can be used to link up with PQ via the trans county trail. Other options involve taking the FR from the cement pad to the east and southeast ridges. The SE ridge is the one that drops into the start of Ruffner hill at the houses. Lots of other options. My regular quick pre- or after work route there is 7.5 miles in length and has 1400 feet of climbing, and is a great workout that has awesome climbs and some fun fast ride type descents.

Just starting at Meadowbrook alone I have included Black Mtn via the 56 bike path, PQ canyon and Tunnels via the trans county trail, and the sngletrack that parallels Pomerado Rd thru Scripps Ranch.

Just wanted the truth out about these trails . Yes trails there are a number of different runs at MEDOWBROOK.They are open fire road to very techenical single track. There are a numder of jumps from 10 feet to over 40 feet. loads of fun to ride. A couple of notes please pickup your trash,be kind to the hikers and don't ride above your ablity. This area is a great training ground for D.H. riders as well as Cross country. So lets work togather to keep it open and clean.

Dont waste your time coming here! This is a paintball gun training ground for the young local kids.Unless you want to be target practice for these guys, I would go somewhere else or maybe shop at Beyond Bikes right down the road...........
