Great trail for staying in shape. I would not consider this trail advanced, it just requires a high level of fitness. Being the highest point in Orange County there are some great views on a good day.

Excellent fireroad training ride with 5,000 feet of climbing. Surface varies from smooth to loose and rocky with some ruts.

Customer Service

Take Harding truck trail to a "saddle" approx. 9.5 miles up. From the saddle, head east and stay right to go to Saddleback Peak. Approx. 5 miles further you will be on top of the antenna covered peak with awesome views.

the first 3 miles start off really steep, but it levels out a little bit and you get warmed up. A fast rider will make it up the first 9 miles in about 1hr 30 min, and a pro racer in about 50-55 min (gate to gate to main divide). 7:30am every thanksgiving there are tons of riders there from rock n road cyclery (where i work)

A super climb, steady and relentless, a test of character to make in in a good time. Going at a fast clip u can make it in 1.5 hrs gate to gate, but I know that some local racers can do it in an hour........and its also a super fun descent, fast, n feels more like a wide singletrack than a fireroad as its not travelled by vehicles.

Customer Service

Just ride straight up, 9.5 miles gate to gate. Ends up at junction of Maple Springs rd n main divide trail. A great place to relax n take in the view.

Harding's pretty steep in sections, which provides for a whole lotta fun comin' down. In the springtime, when the terrain is all green, you need to pay attention, as the turns can come up on you pretty quickly if you're stoned and admiring the scenery. For instance, last year I was grinnin' and groovin' and didn't notice an approaching right turn. Had just enough time to lock 'em before I launched off the edge. Landed in some scrub brush about 20 down the cliff.

Ah, memories. Think I'm goin' to ride this one again this weekend.

Argh mate!! I bust me balls on this one. Tough uphills in the summer. Go early, take lots of water, and eat plenty of carbs the day before or you'll bonk like I did.

Well, if you like long uphill grinds, this is the trail for you. Fireroad all the way up (~9.5 miles) Went up this Saturday (10/21/00). Was pretty cool near the top (~43 degrees). Nice non technical trail, but gets you up to the main divide trail. Beware of all of the dirtbikers on the Main Divide trail. If you go down this way be careful, you can go pretty fast. Not many people on this trail past the 4 mile mark.

This is a great ride to keep your base fitness level. It is in no way a technical ride. Not steep, but very steady uphill. It is much much more enjoyable to descend Joplin trail to Old Camp, and then down Santiago Truck Trail back to the car. Much more fun and technical that way.
