There are many trails in this area, along the river, in the foothills and over the smaller and further west of the two peaks, Mother Miguel. Larger peak with radio antennas is Mt. San Miguel, with paved road up east side (prohibited) and trail down west ridge (only for the truly gnarly and dedicated). Saddle between peaks is accessible from north (Sweetwater Reservoir) or south (golf course) via fireroads. From here, wonderful singletrack climbs the east ridge up Mother Miguel peak to the Rock House at the top, with terrific views of the whole South Bay area. The long west ridge is sometimes technical, all super moto fun. Cleanable up and down if you're on your game Also steep trails and fire roads up the north side for hike a bike. Look out for plentiful rattlesnakes. Long rides to be had here, but no trees, little shade.

Lots of twist and turn, good aerobic workout coming from Proctor Valley. Going down to the East side, I encountered workers from Sweetwater District and pissed because of Mtn Bikers going thru Restricted Habitat Area, needless to say I just went back up again and did an out and back instead of going to the Golf Course.

Did this trail while visiting Chula Vista. Great trail for training your legs, lungs and balance. Pack light and bring only bare necessities. Pineapples everywhere so don't leave that spare tube behind. Single track switchbacks, switchbacks, switchbacks.... almost 3 miles to the top from shopping mall at corner of Mount Miguel and Proctor Valley Road. Recreated historical rock pyramid and dwelling structure on top. Rewarding downhill plunge to the golf course on the other side. Reverse direction is easier, I was told.

Awesome and fun way to get to the Sweetwater trail network if you live in the Eastlake area without having to drive to the Sweetwater Dam or even worse ride Proctor Valley Rd. The downhill is not too technical. Let the brakes go and hold on!
