Park Road - Trail, Denali Park Headquarters, Alaska

Park Road - Trail, Denali Park Headquarters, Alaska

DESCRIPTION

The park road is open to bikes. There is only one road going into the park. You can take your bike on the bus. The bus ticket cost 26 dollars. It used to be free but now the parks are broke and need to collect money where ever they can get it. The road is about 30 feet wide and packed dusty dirt. There is light traffic from tour buses. The park rules say when a bus passes you must stop and put a foot down. This is hardly necessary when the road is so wide. We did stop when there were oncoming buses. All day in mid summer on a weekday we only saw 2 other bikes. We car camped in Teklinika Camp and took the bus 30 miles into the park from there. There were a few passes to climb over. The grade was very gentle on all the climbs. We saw a grizzly bear on the ride. On the bus ride with 40 sets of eyes we saw much more wildlife including Wolves, Caribou, Dall sheep and Moose. You can''t beat the vast wide open scenery on this ride. The ride was not very technically challenging.

I work in Denali National Park every summer since 1999 & road my bike on it a lot. I think it's one of the best places to ride the bike because you can see wildlife anytime & see the wilderness for sure. there are hills & great to get in shape too. I would recommend to do it at night because it's so quiet & no buses & do it with a friend @ NIGHT
