Black wood is awsome for all riders it can get wet and if you are not sure enough to go flat out up hills you may struggle, but hey i did it on a 125

These trails are awesome. There are unbelievable downhill trails that really get the adrenaline pumping. Would thourally recommend it.

Up the Ballarat Road and turn off towards Blackwood Ranges

You can ride from Blackwood to BaccusMarsh,Gisborne, Trentham(good roast on sunday at Trentham).I use the ESSmap book,the book the emergency services use so it has to be detailed.
Here are the trails we use the most.
Fire brake one.15kmcoming from the gisborne end,some good fairly smooth down hill stretchs(it gets graded every couple of years)down to a creek.then up a steepish pinch onto Ratcliff track TR 6km mostly flatish then onto blue gum track TR 6or7kmTL onto Bluegum/O'Brien link track 45km folow this to the right a couple of down hill stretches.There is a few deep wallows on this track but other wise it's not to bad.this track takes you to O'Brien road,where hopefully a ute is waiting for you.
XL track is closer to Blackwood from Fire break 1 and crosses 2 other roads.Good down hill sections,some are a bit rocky,a creek crossing.You can take the creek full noise,no rocks in this one.
Some other good trails in this area are Possum Track,Corner Track.And if you've got big nackers Watties track.Very steep and rocky coming from both ends.I've seen a twin diff lock Landcruiser have to winch out of this track,in the dry.Got to be worth a try hey.

Take the O'Briens crossing rd,'bout 6 ks from blackwood.There is any amount of tracks off this road.Nearly all of the tracks on the right side of the road are dead ends.Alot of the trails are shut during the winter months(no 4wd's to do battle with,bonus).Most of the tracks in this area. link up.
