interesting design...

whatcha ridin style???

why you think about using them instead of something else
Well, I like the innovative design of the rim. Seems like it could be really nice! I currently run UST rims w/ non-ust tires, so I like the fact that the bead hook on these were made for this application. Great width...

These are going on a 7x7 Supermoto. Lotta rocky ass fast DH and AM type stuff (read 20 mile rides w/ uphill and FR). As for FR, well it seems every month I go a little "bigger" with the drops, so it's hard to say where it'll end... To flat I currently do a ton in the 4-5' range, bigger to tranny of course. I'll never (hmmm... ) do 10+ footers to flat... Basically, I huck what we find, but don't go out looking to session huge drops.

I love to shuttle DH as well, but will only do a couple races a year, just for fun, so not as balls-out as the gravity junkies eyeing the podium...

Any ideas?

I'll probably do one or two DH races a year also - for fun.

What is this opinion based upon? Do you have info that should be passed on? I'd really like to know. It's difficult to base a decision on unsubstantiated advice. Not being a smart ass - I just really want to understand!

Other suggestions?

Thanks!

I run 2.5 Nevegal rear / 2.7 Mobster front. I want wider rims because I often feel these fat tires roll laterally on, or "off", the 23mm rims I have now - running @ 25-30psi. I feel this "squirming" on everything from slow rocky to fast DH, esp. w/ babyhead type surfaces.

I want the 10mm bolt thru axle because the QR rear feels flimsy, esp. compared to the front - I can feel it deflect often - no likey!

I have them...

I splurged and had a set built up last year. I mostly do trailriding and dhing. not much jumping or hucking. I've had the front sealed up with stan's since sept/oct of 05 with minimal leakage(i should add sealant now). the rear went flat a while back and have used tubes in the rear since. i've had 2.25 trailbears on there. while running a tube in the rear i pinch flated and the tire came off the bead relatively easily. rode on the rim for a good 10 yards thru a rock garden before i could stop. i only have mavic 321 to compare(other than xc oriented rims). i just wish tires don't come off so easily. you don't need tire levers to install or remove any tire. you'll need extra hands to hold the bead in place while inflating.

from what i remember its a pretty pricey rim. i think it makes a nice DH racing rim due to its weight and width. I use it on a bike i can race DH and climb to get to my downhills. but i think it may be a bit overkill for trailriding(which i mainly use it for, good training for xc). I rode it thru a rockgarden with no tire for a good distance and it had a few dents but i'm still using them now(haven't tried with the rim liner and sealant yet).

to sum it up... i like 'em, but if i had to do it over i may go with something else ligther and cheaper

jr
p.s. if using them tubeless, be careful! i inflated them at a gas station air pump. got home and put them on the bike. i turn around and the tire blew off! so just be careful inflating them, watch the max pressure. i did it once pumping it up with afloor pump too. both times were my fault just be carful.

I am just not a fan of new stuff.........I usually wait for a year before I buy (takes a year to fix the mess-ups)

I usually run 30 to 35 psi on my 23mm wide rims

first feedback...

Right on... thank you! Other than one person say that they were great last year, this is the first detailed feedback I've had on these. This is the exact type of info that I was looking for! thank you!

Sounds like the bead "hook" is a little weird, a defenite concern. Anyone else with such info - please pipe in!
