Looking to start riding this season; Not into any thing major downhill or racing (I know it is not going to happen :)) .

Goal is , just casual trail riding, occasionally paved bike path etc. for 2-3 hours on the weekends

Considering 2013 Trek Supefly AL for $1250 out the door. Should go for this or 2014 Superfly 5 and pay extra $250?

Your thoughts...

Thanks for your inputs..

The Reba(15mm?) on the AL is better than the Recon Silver on the 4, 5 has a Reba. The new geo for the 4/5 is more fun than the old geo.
Trek Fest in April should have a 15% off of the 14s day or two. If I had the Reba I would put a SID RLT damper in $170 list.
Out of your stated range the 9.6 is a major step up because of the frame compliance and trail feel. Trek Fest might help.
