I have an older model Yakima fork mount bike rack. Since my disc brakes make it a really snug fit (too snug to fit correctly), does anybody know if a replacement Yakima viper head unit would fit? It seems like it would, but I'm not sure how to find out for sure.

FYI--I have a Surly Karate Monkey front fork.

I'm not sure if a new Viper head unit will fit an older Viper. I just took apart a steelhead and it didn't look like that on the end, it looked like this, with a small protruding bracket on the end, which fit vertically into a slot on the steelhead. Viper might be similar.

But what I can tell you is don't go spending $50 adding a brand new head unit to that old tray, you can find used steelheads, copperheads, aeros, etc for $20 on eBay, Craigslist or REI used gear sales (usually one Sunday a month).

The tray isn't in bad shape, so I was hoping to just get a new head unit and save a few bucks. I'll probably play it safe and get a new one. Thanks for the info!
