XTR to X-0?

Has anyone got any input to give on whether I should go over to X-0 2006 Rear mech, trigger shifters or should I stick to XTR like I have on my other bike?

Many thanks,

Sure

I happen to like SRAM products, but if the XTR has worked for you, why bother switching? It boils down to a matter of preference, IMO. Both products are very good, and have their own pros and cons. Only one way to find out if you have a preference, and that is to try the SRAM. It's an expensive proposition if you find out you don't like it, though.

Hope Ihaven't confused the situation.

Hi

Thank you and no you haven't confused things.

It's not a case of me swapping my XTR for X-0 its just that I have a bike needing a groupset and couldn't decide on sticking with XTR or trying the new X-0 shifters and all its SRAM trimmings... :)
Understood

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my reply. I knew this was going on a different build, and was suggesting that one argument could be to go again with what has already worked for you (XTR). If you're looking for confirmation that trying X-0 is worth a shot, I'm with you 100%. As I said, I'm a SRAM fan. My only hesitation in being overwhelmingly gung-ho on this is indeed the cost associated with not liking it. To me, a $400+ potential "mistake' is a huge risk.

I agree completely but I think it might be worth the risk, as th etriggers are supposed to be the best shifting shifter available... :)

I've used both XTR and SRAM and I think both are great in one way or another but since last year I've switched everything over to SRAM. I just replaced my X-9 thumbie shifters with XO and I'm blown away with the crisp solid shifting. I think they are worth every penny, but I'm sure there are plenty of riders that think it's foolish to spend that much on shifters.

I wish XO and XTR had the same ratio since I like the XTR 952 series rear derailleurs the best but I'm more than happy with the XO derailleurs. Some people have had issues with the XO RD breaking but I've beat mine up pretty good and it's still kickin. You can pick up a 05 XO RD for much less than a 06 and they are pretty much the same if you go with the long cage.

Bottom line is that if you have the cash give the XO a shot, you won't regret it. If cash is tight I'd go with a 952 XTR set-up over the 960 stuff (not a big fan of it).

If your not sure if you would like the thumbie shifting try a set of x-7 or x-9 shifters first, way cheaper!!

I gave the X-9 thumbies a go, but I didn't like them to be honest, they didn't **** as nice as XTR 952 thumbies, I take it the X-0 triggers are much better? If not I think it will answer my questions...

Many thanks.

The XO doesn't have the thumb reach issue you may of had with the X-9 and the shifting is unmatched!! No play at all and crisp as can be.

SRAM definitely has a more positive shifting action, however, most people have trouble adapting to using thumbs for both up and down shifts. But the shifting action is soooo good. So crisp and clean. It took me a few hours to get used to the thumb shifters. The Shimano rapid fire shifters are more natural.
Yeah it was definitely a thumb reach issue I was having, I do tend to ache in my thumbs on rides, but if there is no play or excess pressure required to shift then they sound great.
Not to sound like an ass, but why spend that much on shifter,rd

Personnaly, and Deore xt rd medium cage with xt cassette, and cheap deore shifter work realy well for me, just be sure your chain is nor to long to. ( i only run 1 granny 1 middle and 1 bashguard)

I never tried an x.0 shifter and x.0 trigger, but i tried a x.9 rd + x.9 shifter and they are good pretty much equivalent (with pg-970 cassette)

Maybe sram is better in muddy condition (never tried in mud)
An expensive rd and shifter is not gonna make you climb hills faster, i would go with a cheaper rd and trigger, and buy better tire and wheel personnaly

:)
