XTR levers - Saint calipers : re-hashing an old hack

So, I've been doing some research on this today and found this:

XTR lever ---- You either get the Race or the Trail lever. The Race is just that...plain jane, no servo-wave, better modulation. The Trail lever has servo-wave which some like because it "feels" like theres more bite, but many of us don't because there's almost no modulation

Saint calipers - Not much to say here.......It's for those wanting a 4piston over a 2 piston XTR.....but with the feel and lighter weight of the XTR lever.

So, here's where I'm stumped. I've seen 4-6 variations and part numbers for hoses between all the above. I've read the thread here where they broke down the translation of the acronyms.

Clearly, my XTR levers are specd for the BH90 "SBM" hose.
The Saint calipers call for the BH90 "SBLS" hose.
The caliper I'm getting from Ebay includes the banjo BOLT, but no hose.

My question is....."what's the difference in the hose banjo FITTING"? I see that the crimp is longer, and they're switching from gold to silver soon. I'd like to know if the actual dimensions of the banjo FITTING at the end is the same. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

p.s.- I've also read that the longer crimp has something to do with heat dissipation and that the hose inner diameters are different.

This was popular because there wasn't a choice before, at this point just get XT or XTR 4 piston caliper.

how much power do u need?

So far, the Saints have been easier and cheaper to find.......and direct comparisons I've read, more power with not extra weight. I'm game for whatever, though.

But are those comparison recent?

Dude......I've already got a lazy eye.......I think the other one is starting to drift after all the reviews and forums I've been reading. Losing my mind with it all.
I'm keeping an eye out for whatever comes along. I DID just stumble upon an XT caliper by itself.
What bothers me, I searched this forum before making this post and stumbled on several threads about failure with theses models. UGH.
I know this sounds retarded, but my goal was to keep my XTR levers to match my gunmetal grey Deity stem. I'm about to say screw it and get some TRPs like my other bike.
I went down that rabbit hole as well.

From my understanding you want to match the hose inner diameter to the lever, the caliper doesn't care... it's a matter of matching the hose inner diameter to how much fluid the master cylinder/lever is pushing. I used XT levers and hose with Saint Calipers and they worked 100% just fine. All I needed there was the Saint caliper banjo bolt. So, if I'm your post correctly, and you receive the calipers with banjo they should be plug & play just fine.

I've felt non-servo wave XTR levers with Saint calipers and I didn't like the amount of lever throw one bit. Maybe something you adapt to, dunno. I'll also say the very latest iteration of Shimano 4 pot brakes have amazing lever feel. Not the ultimate power of Saints but more refined and preferable imo.

The issue is it's an old and moot rabbit hole since the introduction of other series 4 pots.

I went down it a long time ago. There just doesn't seem to be a reason to bother anymore.

This is really good to know, because those hoses are like $40 a piece! My local bike shop can't even get them til April....maybe even August. There's a set on Jenson I could get now, but I"m just trying to do my homework before I keep blowing more money on piecing together brakes that I could just buy outright.
That's interesting about the non-servo feel. Are you saying you didn't like the modulation and less power? If you like a noticeable "bite", I can understand that. Guys that like more modulation and used to moto brakes tend to actually prefer the less bite. I could sorta go either way since I swap around between 4 different bikes in a week
Do you need a XT/XTR/Saint caliper ?
The MT520 is similar but without a banjo and 'upmarket logos'.

The power delivery is a bit different but that's not what I was speaking to. Another function of the servo wave is to close the gap of the pads to the rotor quickly which equates to less lever throw. I've not found any Shimano 4 pot brake systems "grabby". 2 pot on the other hand, yes.

All BH90 hoses are the same on the lever end, same inner diameter, same barb & olives, same everything.

On the caliper end, the only difference is the banjo length & colour, the hole & o-rings for the banjo bolt are exactly the same and all banjos will fit on any caliper that uses a banjo bolt to attach the hose. I have the BH90 SBM and SBLS hoses on my bikes and have used M675, M7000, M640, and M820 calipers on them. They all fit with no issues and have worked fine for many years.

I run this same setup and as mentioned the BH90 hoses are the same but the SBLS just has a longer banjo neck.

I noticed no difference running both hoses.
