Is it the same a Avids pad contact adj? I just installed the M988 on my Tallboy and this is my first time on Shimano hydro brakes. The Reach adjustment is straight forward and easy to dial in but I've never heard of Free Stroke.

Free stroke adjust the amount of lever movement before the brake pads are engage. How far do you have to pull the brake lever before your brakes start to work? If it engages too soon or not soon enough then you the free stroke adjustment to dial that in.

I'm wondering how well this adjustment works on the new 988 XTRs. The older Shimanos setting was known to be almost useless.

Has this changed? Anybody know?
