I have an old set of XTR 951 cranks with a replaceable spider and found that the threads on the male portion (i.e. the threads on the right crank arm itself) are stripped. Looks like it should be a 3-thread die and the last 1-1.5 threads are gone. Anyone have suggestions on how to salvage this? What about a spacer/washer to bridge the gap to the remaining thread - if so, please suggest what to use, needs to be pretty thin (thinner than a BB spacer)? Any good experience with the chemical thread repair kits?

Thanks in advance!

found a plumbing washer that, on first impression, did the trick. Snugged things up nicely; its a throw-away otherwise so worth a shot - "dirt-test" soon to come. On retrospect, based on the material of this washer, fabricating my own out of a coffee can lid or similar would have worked too.

Hope this thread is able to help someone else in the future ;)
